Research / Writing Opportunity: European Public Equity Markets & Capital Markets Regulation
Worldwide
Research / Writing Opportunity: European Public Equity Markets We are looking for someone to develop a concise institutional and legal background section on European public equity markets, covering the EU27 and, where historically relevant, the UK. The section should address three main areas: 1. Why public equity markets matter for Europe * The role of public markets in firm financing, growth and innovation. * Mobilisation of European savings and cross-border capital allocation. * The link to European competitiveness. * The Capital Markets Union (CMU), Listing Act, and Savings and Investments Union (SIU). 2. How the legal and regulatory framework works * What is regulated at the EU level versus national law and national regulators. * The role of individual exchanges and market operators. * Key frameworks affecting listed firms, including the Prospectus Regulation, Transparency Directive, Market Abuse Regulation, MiFID/MiFID II, and Listing Act. * Focus on why these rules were introduced and how they affect the costs and attractiveness of listing, rather than simply summarising legislation. * Include the UK where relevant for historical comparison. 3. How European equity markets are structured * Explain the distinction between regulated markets, MTFs, SME Growth Markets and OTC markets. * Discuss the difference between main regulated markets and junior/growth markets such as AIM, Euronext Growth, First North, Scale and NewConnect. * Highlight important changes in exchange structures and market classifications over time. Objective The section should provide the institutional background necessary to understand why declining listings have become a policy concern in Europe and why the distinction between regulated and growth markets is important when measuring listing dynamics. Sources Please rely primarily on official EU institutions, regulators and stock exchanges, and provide sources/citations for all important legal and institutional claims. The final output should be concise, academically written, and suitable for inclusion on a research/project website or in a research paper.
