Research and Reporting on Sexual Assault

Job Description Informing S.A. is seeking a freelance reporter to produce original news reporting and investigative journalism on issues including wartime sexual violence, sexual violence affecting children in primary schools, interpersonal violence, public policy, and other emerging developments related to our editorial mission. Contributors may choose one of the following options. They may write one in-depth feature article of 1,500–2,000 words minimum, or they may conduct research on one of the relevant topic areas and produce two to three detailed analyses of their findings. For example, a research analysis could be titled, "The Christian Genocide in Nigeria: Sexual Violence News and Statistics." All articles must be independently researched, fact-checked, and written exclusively for Informing S.A. Articles must not be copied, paraphrased, or rewritten from existing publications. Candidates should possess strong research, reporting, analytical, interviewing, and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize academic literature, public records, policy developments, and original reporting into clear, accurate journalism. All accepted work will be completed under a Work-for-Hire Agreement. Informing S.A. will retain the intellectual property rights to all published articles, and writers will receive full byline attribution for their work. Current Editorial Priorities Our immediate editorial focus is on producing original, evidence-based journalism in the following areas: wartime sexual violence, including how these crimes occur, the conditions that enable them, and ongoing situations in conflict-affected regions such as Nigeria and other countries; sexual violence affecting children in primary schools; the role of language and culture in shaping attitudes toward sexual violence; sexual violence affecting men and boys; sexual violence experienced or reported in dreams and its psychological significance; and sexual violence in the workplace. Writers are encouraged to identify emerging developments, conduct original research, review academic literature, policy documents, public records, and reputable news sources, and, where appropriate, interview subject-matter experts. Articles may focus on any country or region, provided they are thoroughly researched, factually accurate, and relevant to Informing S.A.'s mission. All factual claims must be supported by reliable sources, and all references must be cited using MLA citation standards. Background and Professional Conduct Because Informing S.A. works on sensitive issues involving sexual violence and vulnerable populations, all applicants are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity. Applicants should have no history of convictions for violent offenses, sexual offenses, or other serious criminal conduct that would reasonably compromise the organization's mission or public trust. Finalists may be required to complete a background check where permitted by applicable law. Any applicant who knowingly provides false or misleading information regarding their background or qualifications may have their application withdrawn or, if engaged, their contract terminated immediately. Where there is evidence of fraud, document falsification, or other potentially criminal conduct, Informing S.A. reserves the right to refer the matter to the appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable law.
