Residential Landscape Designer — 2D Plans + 3D Renderings (ongoing project work)
Worldwide
We're a residential landscape design/build company in southeastern Pennsylvania looking for a designer we can send work to regularly. We sell landscape projects including patios, walkways, steps, retaining walls, plantings, lighting. What we need from you is the design package that lets us present the vision to the homeowner and then build it accurately. This is posted as a single project so we can see your work. If it goes well, we'll keep sending projects. Volume varies with the season, some months 3, some months 10 or more. This is steady, recurring work, not a one-off. WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM US We write a detailed brief for every project, not a vague email. Each one includes: Site photos Existing conditions: sun/shade, what stays and what goes Grades and drainage notes where the design depends on them Written scope of work, itemized Exact material specs with manufacturer, product line, size, color, etc Plant direction, deer- and animal-resistant preferences, and our preferred plant list A contact who answers questions the same day You will not have to guess. If something is unclear, you ask and we answer. DELIVERABLES PER PROJECT Scaled 2D plan view — fully dimensioned, north arrow, scale bar Plant schedule: botanical name, common name, quantity, install size, spacing Hardscape material takeoff: square footages by material, plus total new impervious square footage 3D renderings: multiple views, photorealistic, including the primary approach view Client-ready presentation PDF: this is what the homeowner sees, so it needs to look good Source files: your native file plus PDF and high-res JPG exports We want a designer who stays with a plan until it's right. Tell us how many revision rounds your price includes and what you'd charge beyond that. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR A residential portfolio that makes homeowners say yes. Renderings are what close the sale for us. Show us your best three residential projects: front entries, patios, walkways. Speed. We need a draft within days of the brief and a final within 7 to 10 days. If your turnaround is longer, tell us upfront rather than after we've hired you. Clean, buildable plans. Our crews build from your drawings. Dimensions have to be right. Clear English written communication. We're not doing calls for every project, most of it happens in writing. Proficiency in whatever you're fastest in: SketchUp + V-Ray/Enscape/Lumion, Vectorworks Landmark, DynaSCAPE, Realtime Landscaping Architect, Rhino, or similar. We care about the output, not the logo on the software. Familiarity with US Northeast plant material (USDA Zone 7a) and hardscape products like Techo-Bloc and natural stone. We will specify the materials for you. We're open to designers anywhere in the world. HOW TO APPLY Please include, in this order: Three residential design packages you personally produced. Plan view and renderings for each. Portfolio link is fine. We will not read proposals without work samples. Your bid for one complete package as described above, for a typical suburban front-yard or backyard project of roughly 1,500–2,500 sq ft of design area. Tell us what's included and what would trigger an extra charge. Your realistic turnaround for draft and final, assuming you're starting from a complete brief. Your software and what you use for rendering. Your current availability, how many of these could you take per week and per month? Skip the generic cover letter. Start your proposal with the word "Trowel" so we know you read this. FIRST PROJECT The winning bid gets a real project, a full design package, paid at your quoted rate. We review, give feedback, and if the work is good we move straight into ongoing projects.
