Romance Fiction Ghostwriter - AI-Assisted Novellas - Paid Trial Chapter

Summary

I'm an independent audiobook publisher looking for a romance ghostwriter for a series of novellas (approx. 18,000 words each). This is ongoing work: 3 books ready now, with steady monthly volume after that for the right person (potential $750+/month at 3 books/month). What makes this job different: you won't be plotting anything. Each book comes with a complete story bible I provide — a full chapter-by-chapter outline with every plot beat and exact cliffhanger ending, complete character sheets, a voice/style guide with named comp authors, and a list of banned cliché phrases. Your job is execution, not invention. The books use a short-chapter thriller-pacing structure (Freida McFadden style): the outline gives you 12 story chapters, which you deliver as roughly 18-24 short published chapters of 700-1,100 words each, splitting at mini-hooks so every single chapter ends on a cliffhanger. The bible explains the exact system — if you've read McFadden or similar bestsellers, you already know the feel. The workflow: you draft with Claude AI following the prompting instructions in the bible — specifically using the Claude Fable 5 model, not the default model. Then you do a thorough manual editing pass on every chapter to make the prose fully human: rhythm, dialogue, cutting AI filler, choosing the split points, and sharpening every chapter-ending hook. The editing pass IS the job. If your plan is to paste AI output with a light skim, this isn't for you and it will show immediately. If you're a romance-fluent writer or editor who knows how to turn a solid draft into an addictive read, this is easy, well-defined work. Genres: paranormal romance (wolf shifter), dark mafia romance, small-town romcom. Heat level: open door, bestseller spicy (Tessa Bailey / Danielle Lori calibration — the bible defines it precisely). You should read at least one of these genres. How hiring works: the contract is set up as $250 fixed price with two milestones. Milestone 1 is a $25 paid trial — the first outline chapter (approx. 1,500 words, delivered as published Chapters 1-2 with the split and both hooks done) — funded immediately when you're hired. Milestone 2 is the remaining $225 for the full book, funded only if the trial passes. This protects both of us: you never work for free, and I don't commit to a full book before seeing your editing quality. After book one, ongoing books at $250 each with the same structure. Quality standard and revisions (part of the contract): Delivery standards — delivered chapters must contain zero phrases from the bible's banned list (things like "couldn't help but," "a mix of X and Y" — I check with a simple search), must match the outline beats including every specified cliffhanger, every published chapter must end on a hook, and delivery is one clean plain-text Word document with sequential chapter numbering. Fixes for any deviations from these standards are not revisions — they're part of completing the delivery, included in the price. One revision round included — once the manuscript meets the delivery standards, I read the full book and if needed, i send ONE consolidated feedback document. You do one pass addressing it: line- and scene-level changes like dialogue punch-ups, pacing trims, and strengthening weak hooks. Structural changes beyond the provided outline aren't revisions (the outline is fixed) and would be quoted separately — in practice this almost never comes up, because the outline is locked before you start. If a second revision round is ever needed beyond the included one, it's a flat $30 per round (added as a milestone) — no hourly surprises for either of us. This means you'll never face endless drip-fed revision requests, and I never face "that costs extra" on basic quality. Requirements: Excellent American-English prose (native-level fluency; location doesn't matter, skill does) Romance writing or editing samples Your own Claude subscription with access to the Fable 5 model (Pro plan or higher) Follows outlines precisely — beats and cliffhangers are fixed Reliable deadlines: trial chapter delivery within 3 days of hire, full book within 2 weeks In your application: (1) one romance sample (written or edited by you), (2) which of the three genres you read most and the last book you finished in it, (3) start your proposal with the word "cliffhanger" so I know you read this. Ownership and confidentiality (part of the contract): This is ghostwriting, work-for-hire. All delivered work and full copyright transfer to me automatically upon milestone payment. No byline, no portfolio use, no sharing or reselling in any form. The story bibles I provide are confidential and remain my property.
