SSRS/SQL BI Developer for KPI Dashboard Prototype

We are a wholesale distribution company seeking an SSRS/SQL developer to build a small paid prototype for an executive KPI reporting system we are calling “Ace Pulse.” Long-term vision The completed Ace Pulse system will automatically compare our company’s performance with American Supply Association Operating Performance Report (ASA OPR) benchmarks. It will use a red/yellow/green heat map to help management quickly identify which departments and KPIs need attention. The future production report may be distributed through an automated daily SSRS email subscription. This $500 contract is only for a limited proof of concept. A successful prototype may lead to a larger follow-on project. Prototype scope * Review a simplified KPI definition sheet based on our authorized internal ASA OPR materials. This will be provided privately to the selected freelancer. * Review a sanitized sample of our data. No production-database access will be provided during this pilot. * Map three representative company calculations to three ASA-aligned KPI definitions selected during kickoff. * Create the required T-SQL queries or views. * Build one SSRS executive-summary report page. * Display each KPI’s actual result, benchmark or target, variance, and red/yellow/green status. * Show the reporting period and data “as of” date. * Make benchmark values and color thresholds configurable rather than hard-coding them into the report. * Briefly document how the prototype could later be expanded and distributed through an automated SSRS subscription. Required deliverables 1. Data-mapping document showing each KPI definition, source field, calculation, and ASA reference. 2. All SQL scripts, queries, or views used in the prototype. 3. The complete editable SSRS/RDL source file. 4. One working red/yellow/green executive heat-map page covering three KPIs. 5. Basic installation and configuration instructions. 6. A short recorded walkthrough explaining the SQL, calculations, report design, and recommended next steps. Acceptance criteria * All three KPI calculations must reconcile to the provided sample data. * Color status must respond correctly when benchmark or threshold values change. * The RDL file must be editable and compatible with our SSRS environment, with the exact target version confirmed during kickoff. * All source files and documentation must be delivered before final approval. * The developer must be able to explain and support everything delivered. Candidate requirements * Demonstrated SSRS report-development experience * Strong T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server skills * Experience with KPI reporting, business intelligence, data modeling, or ETL * Clear written and spoken English * Ability to provide at least two hours of overlap with U.S. business hours during the project * Willingness to complete the prototype within 7–14 calendar days AI-assisted development is welcome, but the developer must personally understand, validate, explain, and maintain all submitted work. Budget Fixed price: $500 for the prototype described above. Please do not propose a full production implementation within this budget. Potential follow-on work If the prototype is successful, a later engagement may include additional ASA OPR metrics, departmental and branch drilldowns, production data integration, automated daily email delivery, security configuration, documentation, and ongoing support.
