The Drainage Designers is seeking experienced freelance drainage engineers to join our growing nationwide network of consultants. We require professionals who can attend sites across the UK on our behalf, meet with clients, assess drainage constraints and opportunities, take photographs, and provide practical engineering advice that will inform our drainage design work. This is a flexible freelance opportunity with assignments offered on an as-needed basis. We are looking to establish long-term relationships with experienced engineers who can provide local site attendance and technical insight within their preferred geographical areas. Payment Structure This role is paid on a day-rate basis. About The Drainage Designers The Drainage Designers is a specialist drainage consultancy providing: Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Design Drainage Strategies Flood Risk Assessments Surface Water Management Reports Planning Application Drainage Support Drainage Approvals and Technical Submissions Our clients include homeowners, architects, developers, planning consultants, contractors and commercial organisations throughout the UK. The Role You will act as our representative on site and provide clients with a professional and knowledgeable point of contact during site inspections. Assignments may include: Meeting clients on site Inspecting existing drainage infrastructure Assessing development constraints and opportunities Taking site photographs and notes Identifying existing drainage assets Reviewing topography and site conditions Identifying possible discharge locations Assessing opportunities for SuDS implementation Providing practical drainage advice to clients Reporting findings back to our design team Preparing a brief written summary of findings Most visits will be completed within a single day. Ideal Candidate We are particularly interested in hearing from: Drainage Engineers Civil Engineers Infrastructure Engineers SuDS Specialists Flood Risk Consultants Former Water Company Engineers Former Local Authority Engineers Independent Engineering Consultants Retired or Semi-Retired Drainage Professionals Applicants should have excellent client-facing communication skills and be comfortable discussing drainage issues directly with property owners, developers and professional teams. Essential Requirements Minimum 5 years' experience in drainage or civil engineering Strong understanding of UK drainage standards and SuDS principles Experience carrying out site inspections and surveys Professional and client-focused approach Full UK driving licence Ability to travel within your preferred coverage area Ability to produce concise written site reports Deliverables Following each assignment we would typically require: Site attendance Photographic survey Site observations and findings Identification of key drainage constraints Initial recommendations for potential drainage solutions Brief written report (typically 1–3 pages) To Apply Please provide: Your location.
