Summary

About the project erabroad.health is a bilingual (English/Japanese) medical communication app for foreign residents and visitors in Japan. Users mark where their pain is on a 3D body model, answer a short series of symptom questions, and the app generates a structured summary they can hand to Japanese medical staff — as a PDF or a QR code link that expires after 48 hours. It is a communication and translation aid, not a diagnostic tool. That distinction is central to how the product is built and positioned. Where the project stands A working web app already exists. The backend and frontend are both functional and running. A previous development team built the core, and a recent round of work added assessment history, an admin dashboard, rate limiting, and several security fixes. What is not done: the app has never been submitted to the App Store, and several App Store compliance requirements are still open. Current stack Backend — Node.js (ESM), Express 5, Sequelize, MySQL Web frontend — React 19, Vite, Tailwind, Three.js (3D body map), PWA Mobile — a React Native project exists with iOS and Android folders, but its completeness is unverified Auth — email OTP, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In Hosting — MySQL on Railway; backend not yet deployed to production What I need you to do Phase 1 — Assessment (first week, paid, deliverable is a written report) Audit the existing React Native project and tell me honestly how much of it is real. Then recommend the faster route to iOS: finish the React Native app, or wrap the existing web app with Capacitor. This decision drives the whole timeline, and I want it made by someone who has actually looked at the code. Phase 2 — Stabilise Initialise the new database schema and verify all three auth flows work end to end Fix a small set of known issues, documented in the handoff doc I will share Deploy the backend to production with HTTPS Phase 3 — App Store compliance Build in-app account deletion (Apple Guideline 5.1.1(v) — mandatory, currently missing) Finish and test Sign in with Apple (Guideline 4.8 — required because we offer Google Sign-In) Add in-app medical disclaimers Privacy nutrition labels and a health-data-specific privacy policy Phase 4 — Ship Build, test, and submit to the App Store, then Google Play Japanese App Store listing written by a native speaker Handle review feedback through to approval Why I need someone in Japan Two reasons, both real. The Japanese medical terminology in the app needs review by someone who can judge whether a symptom description would actually make sense to a Japanese doctor. Machine-translated medical vocabulary is a safety problem, not a polish problem. Second, Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act (薬機法) governs how software like this can be described and positioned. I need someone who understands that landscape well enough to flag a problem before it becomes one. I am not asking you to be a lawyer — I am asking you to know when to tell me to get one. What I am looking for Required: Based in Japan, with business-level Japanese and English Strong Node.js/Express and React experience Has personally shipped at least one app to the App Store, start to finish, including handling a rejection Comfortable inheriting someone else's codebase and being direct about what is wrong with it Nice to have: React Native or Capacitor Three.js Prior healthcare, medtech, or regulated-industry work MySQL/Sequelize How to apply Please answer these in your proposal. Generic proposals will not be read. Link to an app you shipped to the App Store. What was it, and what was your specific role? Have you had an app rejected by Apple? What was the reason and how did you resolve it? Given the choice between finishing an unknown React Native project and wrapping an existing React web app with Capacitor — what would you want to look at first to decide? Any experience with health or medical apps in Japan? If not, that is fine — tell me how you would approach the 薬機法 question. Your realistic estimate for Phase 1 (the audit) in hours. I will share a detailed technical handoff document with shortlisted candidates.
