Senior Full Stack AI Engineer (Python, FastAPI, React, AWS, LLMs)

About Us This position is for the second software engineer joining the ChartBriefs team. You will work directly with our lead engineer to learn the existing architecture, maintain and improve our production platform, troubleshoot and resolve customer and production issues, and help design and build the next generation of AI-powered features. This is a long-term role focused on becoming a core member of our engineering team as the product continues to grow. This individual needs to be available during North America Business Hours for trouble tickets, work and communicating with the team. ChartBriefs is an AI-powered SaaS platform that transforms thousands of pages of medical records into organized, searchable case summaries for physicians, attorneys, and medical experts. Our production platform combines OCR, LLMs, AWS cloud infrastructure, and a React frontend to process complex medical documents at scale. We are not building a prototype. We have a live product with paying users and are looking for a second senior engineer to help maintain, improve, and expand the platform. What You’ll Be Working On This is a hands-on engineering role across the full stack. Responsibilities include: * Maintaining and improving our production OCR and AI extraction pipeline * Building new product features * Debugging production issues across Python, AWS, PostgreSQL, and React * Improving extraction quality using prompt engineering and structured outputs * Optimizing LLM cost, latency, and throughput * Developing FastAPI endpoints and background workers * Improving application performance and scalability * Managing database design and migrations * Developing and improving the React frontend * Expanding automated testing and reliability * Assisting with migration toward a more serverless AWS architecture Required Experience We are looking for someone who has built and maintained production software, not just prototypes. Required experience includes: * Strong Python development * FastAPI * PostgreSQL * REST APIs * AWS * React and TypeScript * Production experience with LLM-powered applications, including Claude, OpenAI, Bedrock, or similar platforms * Experience debugging and maintaining production SaaS applications Nice to Have Experience with any of the following is a major plus: * OCR systems such as AWS Textract, Azure Document Intelligence, Tesseract, or similar tools * Medical records or healthcare software * Legal technology * PyMuPDF * PDF.js * Redis * Docker * Infrastructure as Code * Vector search or RAG systems What Success Looks Like Within your first 90 days, you should be able to: * Understand the existing architecture * Resolve production issues independently * Ship backend and frontend features * Improve extraction quality * Participate in architecture discussions * Help improve system reliability and scalability How We Work You will work closely with our lead engineer, who designed the existing platform.
