Summary

Project Overview We are developing a professional Linux-based home and building automation server and are looking for a senior hardware engineer to design a custom SMARC 2.1.1 carrier board. The system uses a modular architecture with a SMARC CPU module, custom carrier board, separate protocol/I/O hardware, and display/control hardware. The carrier board is expected to include interfaces such as: 12–24V DC power input Ethernet USB M.2 NVMe SSD M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth HDMI/display interface microSD / RTC Interfaces to our internal protocol and control boards One important design challenge is providing multiple reliable serial/UART communication channels for building automation protocols such as KNX, DALI, RS485/Modbus, BACnet MS/TP, Zigbee and Z-Wave. We would like the engineer to recommend the best architecture rather than simply implement our current concept. Scope We need support from architecture through production: System/architecture review Schematic design Multilayer PCB layout Power and protection design High-speed interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, M.2/NVMe EMC/ESD considerations Manufacturing files and editable design sources Prototype bring-up and debugging Design revision after prototype testing The product will run Linux, operate 24/7 and fanless, and is intended for commercial production rather than a proof-of-concept. Required Experience We are specifically looking for someone with previous experience designing SMARC, COM Express, Qseven, OSM, or similar Computer-on-Module carrier boards. Experience with high-speed PCB design, Linux hardware bring-up, industrial power design and production hardware is highly preferred. Please include examples or a description of relevant carrier-board projects you have previously completed. More detailed system architecture, drawings and technical requirements will be shared privately with shortlisted candidates.
