Senior InDesign Editorial Designer + Architectural Photo Retoucher for Luxury A4 Magazine

I am looking for a senior editorial designer to produce a 30–35 page A4 portrait magazine for a high-end residence in Balmoral, Brisbane. The creative direction, page structure, photography, construction story, architectural plans, finishes schedule, supplier information and draft copy have already been developed. You will receive a detailed master brief, so you will not be starting from scratch. The finished publication should feel like a blend of The Local Project, Vogue Living, Belle and Est Living: architectural, restrained, sophisticated and image-led. This must not look like: A real-estate brochure A builder catalogue A Canva template A generic luxury-property booklet A collection of unrelated page designs The entire magazine must feel like one professionally art-directed publication. Format A4 portrait: 210 × 297 mm Facing pages Approximately 30–35 pages, including covers 3 mm bleed on all sides CMYK print-ready artwork Minimum 300 dpi imagery Print-safe margins and gutters Consistent master pages, grids and page numbering Scope of Work You will be responsible for: Reviewing the supplied master brief, floor plans and finishes schedule Refining and editing the supplied copy Writing concise missing editorial content where required Designing the complete magazine in Adobe InDesign Developing a consistent grid, typography system and page rhythm Art-directing and sequencing the photography Professionally retouching selected architectural photographs Correcting exposure, colour, perspective, lighting and lens distortion Removing construction clutter, temporary items and distractions where appropriate Adding realistic AI furniture, artwork, styling or landscaping where required Ensuring all AI additions match the architecture, scale, lighting and finish palette Preparing final print and digital files AI additions must be subtle and photorealistic. I do not want obvious generative imagery or generic furniture pasted into rooms. Key Editorial Features The publication will include: The architectural vision Split-level planning and family-living narrative Connection between the kitchen, living spaces, alfresco and pool Guest suite near the entry that can function as a parents’ retreat Master-suite sanctuary with a nearby bedroom for a young child Separate upper-level teenage retreat with bedrooms, bathroom and living space Four-page construction story titled “No Shortcuts” Engineered piers, concrete foundations and substantial retaining walls The value of building into the site rather than supporting the house on lightweight stilts GW Homes feature Two-page Studio Collective feature Miele feature Parisi feature Lo & Co luxury hardware feature Architectural lighting feature Wardrobe and dressing-room feature Timothy Oulton Odeon pendant above the wardrobe island Natural marble and stone Handmade tiles Tuscan crazy paving Pool finishes and landscaping Joinery, carpentry and concealed services Material palette and supplier credits Visual Direction The magazine should feel: Editorial rather than promotional Refined rather than decorative Warm, architectural and timeless Image-led, with generous negative space Consistent from cover to final page Premium enough to sit on a designer coffee table Typography, image cropping, pacing, captions, margins and hierarchy are extremely important. Deliverables The final handover must include: Editable Adobe InDesign .indd file Fully packaged InDesign folder All linked high-resolution images Layered Photoshop files for major edited images Print-ready CMYK PDF with bleed and crop marks High-resolution digital PDF Compressed web and email PDF Proper paragraph, character and object styles Master pages and automatic page numbering No missing links or fonts No flattened text pages Two rounds of revisions Required Experience You must have strong experience in: Adobe InDesign Editorial and magazine design Architecture or interior-design publications Architectural photo retouching Adobe Photoshop AI generative fill or equivalent image-editing workflows Image sequencing Long-form typography Print production Individual senior designers are preferred.
