Senior Industrial Designer (ID + CMF + KeyShot 3D Renders + Packaging) — Aluminum Phone Accessory
Worldwide
Project Overview We are an independent hardware product studio developing an industry-leading, $80+ EDC/fitness hardware tool engineered from aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum. Our product utilizes a precision dual-pivot slotted hinge, concealed M2.5 hardware, high-friction 70A silicone, and integrated magnetic arrays. The core mechanical engineering skeleton is complete. We are now looking for a Senior Industrial Designer with an exceptional eye for minimalism, tactile haptics, and premium hardware aesthetics, drawing visual inspiration from brands like Peak Design, Leica, Teenage Engineering, and Rimowa. Key Deliverables & Scope This is a complete 3-in-1 design execution structured across three clear milestones: Phase 1: Exterior ID Polish & CMF Specification • Surface Continuity & Geometry Refinement: Receive our underlying mechanical .STEP skeleton and refine all external surfaces, chamfers, edge radii, and tactile grip details while respecting strict mechanical internal clearances. • CMF (Color, Material, Finish): Define exact finishing specs (#120 Fine Glass Bead Blast, Type II Anodization colorways, laser-etched tactical markings, and 70A matte silicone texture). • Hand-off: Export clean, watertight .STEP surface files back to our mechanical engineer. Phase 2: Photorealistic 3D Renders & Marketing Assets • Studio & Context Renders: Produce 6–8 photorealistic 3D renders (KeyShot or Blender) showcasing studio product shots, close-up metal textures, dual-pivot movement, and lifestyle/fitness environments. • Exploded-View Visuals: Create clean exploded-view CAD renders highlighting internal stainless wave springs, flux plates, and magnetic architecture. Phase 3: Premium Retail Packaging & Dielines • Structural & Visual Packaging: Design an Apple-style, high-density unboxing experience. • Dielines & Production Files: Deliver ready-to-print vector packaging dielines (.AI / .PDF), internal foam inserts, and box graphics based on exact collapsed product dimensions. Candidate Requirements • Proven Portfolio: Must show previous work in consumer tech, aluminum hardware, EDC tools, or camera accessories. • Software Proficiency: 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Rhino, or Fusion 360), Rendering (KeyShot or Blender), Graphics/Packaging (Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop). • DFM Awareness: Understanding of CNC milling tolerances, aluminum wall minimums, and draft angles. How to Apply In your response, please include: 1 A link to your portfolio highlighting machined metal products, KeyShot renders, and packaging dielines. 2 The name of your favorite minimalist hardware product and 1 sentence on why you love its design language. 3 Your estimated timeline to complete Phases 1–3 once mechanical CAD is delivered.
