Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Compliance Engineer to review the design of a commercial electromechanical product and identify all applicable regulatory and safety standards required for sale in North America. The product is an intelligent indoor/outdoor enclosure that incorporates multiple electromechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. We are looking for a consultant who can evaluate the product architecture and develop a comprehensive compliance roadmap before formal certification begins. Product Overview • The system includes: • 120 VAC power input • Battery backup system • Multiple custom PCBs and embedded electronics • AC/DC power supplies • Wi-Fi communications • HVAC / thermal management system • Motorized top lid • Motorized front sliding door • Multiple electric motors and actuators • Metal enclosure for indoor and outdoor installation Scope of Work The selected consultant will review the current product design and determine which regulatory requirements, certifications, and industry standards apply. Responsibilities include: • Review available mechanical, electrical, and system documentation. • Identify all applicable regulatory, safety, and certification standards. • Explain why each standard applies and its impact on the design. • Identify potential compliance risks and design deficiencies. • Recommend design changes that will improve the likelihood of successful certification. • Develop a recommended certification and testing roadmap. • Provide guidance throughout development as compliance-related questions arise. Deliverables • The primary deliverable will be a written compliance assessment that includes: • Applicable standards and regulations • Required vs. recommended certifications • Compliance gaps identified in the current design • Recommended design modifications • Required testing and validation • Suggested certification sequence and commercialization roadmap Desired Experience • 10+ years of experience in product regulatory compliance or product safety engineering • Experience preparing commercial products for certification with organizations such as UL, Intertek (ETL), CSA, or TÜV • Strong working knowledge of UL, CSA, FCC, IEC, ANSI, and other applicable North American product safety standards • Experience with electromechanical products containing electrical systems, embedded electronics, motors, HVAC systems, and wireless communications • Ability to work directly with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineering teams to resolve compliance issues before certification • Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills When Applying Please include: • Examples of products you have helped bring through certification • The standards and certification bodies you have worked with • Your role in previous compliance and certification efforts • Your availability • Hourly rate We are looking for an experienced technical partner who can work alongside our engineering team to ensure compliance is designed into the product from the beginning, reducing development risk, minimizing redesigns, and improving the likelihood of a successful certification process.
