Summary

Bars N Racks is an established automotive accessories retailer and installation workshop based in Brookvale, Sydney. We supply and install roof racks, platforms, tow bars, bull bars, suspension, canopies, roller covers, bike carriers, driving lights and other vehicle accessories. We have an existing Shopify website that requires technical review, bug fixing and further development. We are looking for a senior Shopify developer who can work with an inherited store and potentially build a custom vehicle-based ballpark estimating system. This is not simply a theme-design or page-builder project. What we need The project will be completed in stages. Stage 1 – Paid technical audit and discovery The first engagement will be a paid review of the existing Shopify store. The successful developer will: -Review the existing theme, custom code, apps and integrations. -Identify current bugs and incomplete functionality. -Review the website structure, product catalogue and customer journey. -Review the existing quote-request process. -Identify any performance, mobile usability or technical SEO problems. -Assess how vehicle and product compatibility is currently stored and displayed. -Review our existing ballpark estimator workbook and supplier data. -Recommend the best technical architecture for the future estimator. -Explain which parts can be built directly in Shopify and which parts require a custom app, external database or API. -Assess the requirements for integration with Zoho CRM. - Provide a staged scope, estimated hours, timeline, risks and fixed milestone costs for the development work. Stage 2 – Website repairs and quote-request process Subject to approval of the technical plan, the work may include: -Fixing existing Shopify bugs and incomplete functionality. -Improving the website structure and mobile experience. -Repairing or rebuilding the quote-request form. -Allowing customers to select multiple accessory types in one enquiry. -Capturing appropriate vehicle details, product interests, installation requirements and timeframe. -Improving the path from vehicle and product pages to an enquiry. Adding suitable vehicle and product selection functionality. - Ensuring enquiries are captured accurately and reliably. - Supporting conversion tracking requirements provided by our marketing consultant. Stage 3 – Ballpark estimator -We are developing a structured product and vehicle-fitment database using supplier price files, product catalogues and installation guides. -We want to investigate building a ballpark estimator for both our sales staff and website customers. The estimator may need to: -Ask for the customer’s vehicle and required accessories. -Ask follow-up questions when important information is missing. -Match suitable products and SKUs to the correct vehicle. -Apply product price, markup, freight and estimated installation labour. -Allow for relevant sensors, cameras, radar, vehicle variations and recalibration requirements. -Produce a price range rather than a binding formal quote. -Display appropriate warnings and conditions. -Refuse to provide an estimate when the information is insufficient or the fitment cannot be safely confirmed. -Allow staff to view the products, calculations and assumptions behind the estimate. -Allow authorised staff to update pricing and business rules without changing code. Capture customer enquiries and estimator results in Zoho CRM. -Work initially as an internal staff tool before a restricted customer-facing version is released. -We already have estimator spreadsheets and supplier information in development. We do not want the approved data and business rules rebuilt unnecessarily. Stage 4 – Zoho and technical integrations Depending on the developer’s experience, the project may also include: -Shopify-to-Zoho CRM integration. -Matching returning customers to existing contacts to reduce duplicates. -Creating leads or deals with the customer’s vehicle and product requirements. -Recording the source of each enquiry. -Recording estimator results and requested products. Assigning enquiries to the correct salesperson. -Supporting automated acknowledgement and lead-qualification workflows. -Connecting marketing attribution with later quotes and booked jobs. Required experience- Please apply only if you have strong, relevant experience with: Shopify theme and custom application development. Liquid, JavaScript and Shopify APIs. Working safely on an existing live Shopify store. Custom forms and data-driven customer interfaces. External databases, APIs or Shopify metaobjects/metafields. Structured product catalogues and complex product-selection logic. Ideally Strong Automotive Fitment Background Git or another proper version-control process. Testing, staging, backups and rollback procedures. Clear technical documentation and handover. Experience integrating Shopify with Zoho CRM or comparable CRM platforms is strongly preferred. Automotive parts, vehicle-fitment, product compatibility, quoting or configuration-tool experience would be highly regarded. Working requirements: The Shopify store and all developed code, accounts, data and integrations must remain owned by Bars N Racks. Work must be completed through a Shopify collaborator account with only the required permissions. No changes are to be made directly to the live theme without testing and approval. Existing work must be reviewed before anything is replaced. The published theme must be backed up before development begins. All custom work must be documented. Any ongoing app, hosting, API, AI or software costs must be disclosed before approval. The developer must clearly identify anything they cannot complete personally or intend to subcontract. Regular progress updates and reasonable availability during Sydney business hours are required. How to apply: Please answer all of the following: -Provide an example of a Shopify project where you built a custom product selector, configurator, quoting tool or data-driven application. Explain exactly what you personally built. -Have you integrated Shopify with Zoho CRM or another CRM through an API? Please explain how you handled returning contacts, duplicate prevention and failed submissions. -Based on the description above, would you expect the estimator to use Shopify data, metaobjects/metafields, a custom Shopify app or an external database? Please explain how you would decide after reviewing the current system. How would you test changes and protect an existing live Shopify store while repairing inherited code? (1) Can you handle the complete estimator—including product matching, pricing calculations, staff and customer interfaces and Zoho integration—or would you only build the Shopify-facing component? Please be specific. (2) Please do not send a generic proposal. Applications that do not answer the questions above will not be considered. (3) The first engagement will be a paid discovery and technical-audit milestone. The larger build will only be scoped and approved after that review.
