Senior watchOS Developer – Apple Watch Emergency Response App

Summary Senior Swift/watchOS Engineer – Build an Apple Watch Emergency Response Platform We're building an Apple Watch application that allows older adults to summon professional emergency assistance with a single action. Unlike Apple's built-in Emergency SOS, our platform connects users to a professional Emergency Response Centre (ERC) and forms part of a larger healthcare product designed to help people live independently for longer. This isn't a typical fitness or productivity app. Reliability, simplicity and thoughtful engineering are critical, as the software may be used in genuine emergency situations. We're looking for an experienced Swift/watchOS engineer to lead the implementation of our Apple Watch application. The product has already has a defined scope: We have: - Detailed Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) - Technical specifications - User flows - UI/UX designs - Acceptance criteria - Defined milestone plan We're not looking for someone to invent the product, we're looking for someone who can build it to a high standard while contributing technical expertise where platform limitations require engineering judgement. The first phase focuses exclusively on Apple Watch: Apple Watch Ultra (Action Button launch) Apple Watch SE and Series (Complication launch) Future platforms (Android, WearOS, etc.) are separate projects. You'll own the watchOS implementation, including: - Native watchOS application development using Swift and SwiftUI - WatchConnectivity communication between the Watch and iPhone - HealthKit integration for approved mobility and health metrics - Core Location integration for emergency events - Apple Watch Action Button support (Ultra) - Watch Face Complication support (SE/Series) - SOS alert workflow and state management - WKExtendedRuntimeSession implementation - Integration with our existing backend APIs - Testing across both GPS-only and Cellular Apple Watch models - Discovery Phase Before development begins, we'd like to spend approximately one week validating a number of technical assumptions on real hardware, to confirm our scope. This includes: - HealthKit capability validation - WatchConnectivity reliability - Cellular vs GPS behaviour - CoreMotion feasibility - Technical recommendations for V1 This discovery work will help confirm the final implementation plan before the build phase begins. Must have: - Strong commercial Swift development experience - Production watchOS development experience - Experience with WatchConnectivity - Experience with HealthKit - Experience shipping apps to the App Store Nice to have: - WKExtendedRuntimeSession - App Intents - WidgetKit / Complications - Core Location - Healthcare or medical applications - Safety-critical or highly reliable software How We Work: The project has been broken into clearly defined milestones with acceptance criteria.
