Shopify Two-Store Migration — Customer Data, Klaviyo, Subscriptions
Worldwide
Overview We're splitting our Shopify store into two separate stores: our existing store (serving US/rest-of-world, run by our US LLC) and a new store for UK customers (run by our UK Ltd company, for VAT compliance reasons). Both will run on standard Shopify plans (not Plus) with a shared app stack: Klaviyo (email/SMS), Smartrr (subscriptions), and Stamped (reviews). We need someone experienced in Shopify store migrations to move UK customer, order, and subscriber data cleanly from our existing store into the new UK store — without customers being treated as brand-new, losing subscription history, or retriggering "welcome" flows, first-purchase discounts, or review requests they've already had. This is a two-phase project. Phase 1 is a paid discovery task that determines the actual scope of Phase 2 — see below. We're not committing to Phase 2 pricing until Phase 1's findings are in. Phase 1 — Discovery (fixed fee, ~4-8 hours, please quote) The single biggest open question is whether UK order history can be migrated into the new Shopify store at all — Shopify's own tools don't support this natively, so it depends on a third-party migration app. This determines everything downstream, so we want it answered first, before committing to a full scope. Deliverables: Identify and test (or provide strong evidence for) a specific third-party app or method capable of migrating historical order data from one Shopify store to another (e.g. Matrixify or similar — open to your recommendation). Confirm what it can and can't bring over (order line items, timestamps, financial data, associated customer records, etc.) Based on that finding, tell us which of these two scenarios we're in, and what it means for effort/cost: Scenario A: Order history can be migrated into the new store. In this case, connecting the new store to a fresh Klaviyo account should trigger Klaviyo's native historical sync (pulling past orders in as "Placed Order" events automatically) — confirm this is accurate and flag anything that complicates it. Scenario B: Order history cannot be practically migrated. In this case, Klaviyo has confirmed they can help manually export event data from our current Klaviyo account and import it into a new one — confirm feasibility, what data survives that process (opens/clicks/purchase events vs. just profile fields), and estimate the effort involved. A short written recommendation: which path you'd take, roughly how long Phase 2 would take, and a quote for Phase 2 based on what you found. We will not proceed to Phase 2 until we've reviewed Phase 1's findings and agreed on scope/price. Phase 2 — Full Migration (scope and price TBD based on Phase 1 findings) Indicative scope, to be finalized after Phase 1: Customer/order data migration: migrate UK customer profiles (and order history, if Phase 1 confirms it's possible) into the new UK Shopify store. Klaviyo migration: set up Klaviyo for the new UK store so UK contacts aren't treated as brand-new subscribers — consent status, segments, and (per Phase 1 findings) as much engagement/purchase history as is practically portable, preserved. Suppress or gate "welcome"/new-customer flows during the migration window (e.g. via a migrated tag filter) so returning customers don't get emails meant for first-timers. Smartrr subscription migration: migrate active UK subscriptions to the new store's Smartrr instance without disrupting billing cycles, payment methods, or triggering duplicate charges. Stamped reviews: assess whether/how existing UK customer reviews can be carried over or re-associated with the new store; if not portable, advise on the cleanest fallback. De-duplication logic: ensure customers appearing in both stores' history aren't treated as first-time customers for discount codes, loyalty logic, or automated flows. Testing & QA: test the full customer journey (login, order history visibility, active subscription continuity, email flow behavior) with a sample of real UK accounts before full cutover. Documentation: a written summary of what was migrated, what wasn't (and why), and any manual cleanup needed post-migration. Ideal skills/experience Proven experience splitting or migrating a Shopify store (ideally has done a "one store into two" migration before, not just single-store setup) Hands-on experience with Shopify data migration apps (e.g. Matrixify) for bulk order/customer data Klaviyo migration experience specifically — understands account structure limitations (Klaviyo recommends one Shopify integration per account), suppression lists, consent/GDPR implications for UK/EU contacts, and how to avoid sender reputation damage from a list migration Smartrr experience, or strong general subscription-app migration experience (Recharge, Bold, etc. also relevant as transferable experience) UK/EU data handling awareness (GDPR-relevant, since this involves personal customer data) What to include in your application A short description of a similar migration you've done (store split, or major Klaviyo/subscription migration) — what tools/approach you used Your initial take on the order-history migration question (Scenario A vs B above), if you have relevant experience to speak to it Availability and estimated timeframe for Phase 1
