Singapore GIS Technician Needed for Digitizing Boundaries
Worldwide
We're a US-based location data company building a global geographic reference dataset. We're looking for a GIS professional based in, or with deep local expertise in, Singapore to source, evaluate, and package official geographic boundary and census data for our internal systems. This is a research-and-deliverable engagement, not just a data pull. We need someone who understands the local administrative geography hierarchy (equivalent to how the US has states, counties, zip codes, and neighborhoods) and can map it to our data model. What You'll Do 1. Source the data Locate the best available official GIS dataset(s), in this priority order: *National statistical/mapping agency dataset (first choice) *State/provincial/territorial-level datasets *Other reputable sources The dataset(s) must include both boundary shapes (geometry) and census/demographic attributes, plus a reliable key or ID that links the two together (e.g., a national geographic identifier). 2. Evaluate against our needs Identify available administrative layers and where they are comparable to US Census layers (not an exhaustive list) *State *County *County Subdivision *City *Postal code *Neighborhood *If available Explain the geography hierarchy (what sits above/below what) so we can map it correctly. 3. Produce a documentation package Write up your findings so our team can understand and use the data. Include: *The name and source of each dataset used, with a link *An explanation of the administrative hierarchy and how it maps to US equivalents *Any caveats, gaps, or limitations (e.g., missing regions, outdated boundaries, inconsistent coverage) 4. Internal peer review Support our internal review to confirm the data meets our standards for deployment. Each shape record must include, at minimum: *Country *A national geographic identifier (analog to a US FIPS code or GEOID) *Boundary name / English name of boundary *Source Deliverables *A single shapefile package (.shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj) with only the recommended layers, ready for bulk upload *A documentation write-up (per above) *Brief written notes suitable for a peer-review handoff Requirements *Local expertise in, or strong familiarity with, the relevant official statistical and mapping agencies Proficiency with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar) *Comfortable working with shapefiles, GeoJSON, and census/demographic data joins *Strong written English (documentation must be usable by a US-based team) *Attention to detail — this data feeds directly into a production system How to Apply Please include: *Your familiarity with the relevant national statistical/mapping agency and its typical data releases An example of past GIS boundary/census data work, if available *Your estimated timeline for this project
