Sound Designer Needed for Two Harmonic UI Sound Sets (Mobile Learning App)
Worldwide
We are looking for a sound designer to create **two complete alternative sonic feedback systems** for Bible Mastery, a mobile learning app available on iOS and Android. This is not a traditional music composition project. We need polished, extremely short UI sounds that make answering questions feel responsive, satisfying, and cohesive. We specifically want **two different creative approaches to the same interaction system** so our team can compare them and select the strongest sonic identity for the app. ## Primary Use Case Bible Mastery has a Letter Block answer mode where users drag letters into spaces to construct an answer. We want successful letter placements to create a progressive musical sequence. For example: * The first correct letter plays a short tone. * The next correct letter plays a harmonically related higher tone. * Each additional correct letter progresses upward. * The final correct letter resolves the sequence with a satisfying completion sound. The user's ear should intuitively perceive that they are progressing toward completion. Some learning apps use progressive musical feedback effectively during answer construction. We want to use this general UX principle while creating a completely original sonic identity for Bible Mastery. ## We Need TWO Complete Sound Sets The primary deliverable is **two distinct creative interpretations of this system**. ### Sound Set A Approximately: * 7–8 progressive correct-placement tones * 1 correct-answer/completion sound * 1 incorrect interaction sound * 1 hint/reveal sound * 1 letter removal/repositioning sound ### Sound Set B The same functional sounds: * 7–8 progressive correct-placement tones * 1 correct-answer/completion sound * 1 incorrect interaction sound * 1 hint/reveal sound * 1 letter removal/repositioning sound This means approximately **24 total final audio assets**. ## Important: The Two Sets Should Be Meaningfully Different We are not looking for Set B to simply be Set A with a different instrument or minor EQ adjustment. We want two legitimate creative directions. For example, one direction might lean toward warm organic/plucked/mallet textures, while another could use a cleaner, more modern and subtle tonal palette. Those are only examples. We want the sound designer to propose the two creative directions. Both sets must still fit the overall Bible Mastery brand. ## Musical Progression We anticipate approximately 7–8 short harmonically related tones in each set. We are interested in a major pentatonic or similarly consonant approach so the tones remain pleasant when users trigger several of them rapidly. The sounds should work sequentially while still sounding appropriate individually. For answers containing fewer or more than 8 letters, the app will map the user's progress proportionally across the available musical sequence. We welcome recommendations regarding: * Scale * Intervals * Voicing * Instrumentation * Timbre * Transients * Final musical resolution ## Desired Brand Character Both sound systems should generally feel: * Warm * Refined * Peaceful * Intelligent * Satisfying * Timeless * Slightly organic * Premium without being dramatic We do NOT want: * Childish sounds * Arcade/game sounds * Generic mobile-game sounds * Harsh or distracting feedback * Excessively electronic sounds * Overt church/worship music The religious nature of the app should not result in cliché "religious" audio. We are looking for excellent modern interaction sound design. ## Sound Specifications ### Correct Letter Placement * Approximately 7–8 harmonically related ascending tones per set * Approximately 70–130 ms each * Fast, clean attack * Suitable for immediate UI feedback * Must work when triggered rapidly ### Correct Answer / Completion * Distinct resolving tone or subtle chord * Approximately 250–400 ms * Should create an elegant but clearly satisfying sense of completion ### Incorrect Interaction * Short and subtle * Clearly communicates an unsuccessful action * Should not feel punitive * No harsh buzzer/error sound ### Hint / Reveal * Light feedback indicating the app supplied or revealed a letter * Should be distinguishable from a letter correctly selected by the user ### Letter Removal / Repositioning * Very subtle tactile-style sound * Can be unpitched or minimally pitched ## Critical UX Requirement These sounds will potentially be heard **hundreds or thousands of times by an individual user**. They must therefore: * Avoid listener fatigue * Remain satisfying after repeated use * Work through phone speakers * Work through headphones * Remain clear at relatively low volume * Have clean transients * Work when triggered rapidly in succession * Avoid excessive reverb or long tails * Feel cohesive as a system * Enhance the interaction without distracting from learning The sounds should be noticeable enough to make the interaction satisfying but subtle enough that the user is not consciously thinking about the sound design every time they answer a question. ## Creative Process We would like the designer to first establish the creative direction for **Set A and Set B**. The two directions should be sufficiently different that our team can make a meaningful comparison. After reviewing the directions, we will provide feedback before the complete sets are finalized. We welcome creative recommendations from an experienced UI/game sound designer rather than expecting someone to simply execute exact musical notes provided by us. ## Deliverables Approximately **24 final sound assets**, consisting of two complete sound sets. Please provide: * Individual final audio files * Lossless WAV masters * Mobile-optimized versions if recommended * Consistent perceived loudness across each set * Clearly labeled files * Two meaningfully different sonic directions * Reasonable revision round(s) Example naming: set_a_block_01.wav set_a_block_02.wav ... set_a_block_08.wav set_a_block_complete.wav set_a_block_wrong.wav set_a_block_hint.wav set_a_block_remove.wav And corresponding `set_b_` files. ## Rights All sounds must be original or created using source material that permits this commercial use. Bible Mastery must receive the rights necessary to use the final sounds perpetually within: * The Bible Mastery app * Future versions of the app * Related Bible Mastery products/features * Marketing and promotional materials Please disclose any third-party sample libraries or licensed source material used. We cannot use sounds copied, extracted, or recreated too closely from Duolingo or any other existing app. ## Potential Ongoing Work We are initially designing this system for Letter Blocks, but our larger goal is to establish a recognizable **Bible Mastery sonic identity**. The selected direction may later be expanded into: * Multiple Choice interactions * Correct-answer feedback * Deck completion * Mastery milestones * Streaks * Focus Timer completion * Onboarding * Other learning interactions If this initial project goes well, we would be interested in continuing with the same sound designer. ## When Applying Please include: 1. Examples of UI/UX, mobile app, game, or interaction sound design you have created. 2. Examples of sonic branding or short musical feedback systems, if available. 3. A brief explanation of how you would approach the progressive harmonic system. 4. A brief description of how you might differentiate **Set A from Set B**. 5. Expected turnaround time. 6. Confirmation of commercial usage rights for the final delivered assets. Please begin your proposal with the words **"Bible Mastery Audio"** so we know you read the complete brief.
