Strategic Advisor for Entrepreneur — Business, Wealth & Long-Term Direction
Worldwide
I’m looking for an experienced entrepreneur, executive advisor, or strategic consultant to help me think through a fairly high-level question: "What game should I actually be playing over the next 5–10 years?" I currently own a young but profitable residential design-build / contracting company in Ontario, Canada. The business has grown quickly and has demonstrated that it can generate good margins and larger projects. My challenge is not simply figuring out how to grow it. I can see several plausible paths: * Scale the existing renovation company with employees and multiple production teams * Move toward a leaner general-contractor model using subcontractors * Shift toward architectural/design/pre-construction services * Use the existing company primarily as a cash-generation vehicle * Pursue real-estate development, building, investing, or partnerships * Something else entirely that I'm not aware of right now I’m trying to determine which path makes the best use of my time, capabilities, capital, risk tolerance, and desired lifestyle. ## What I Need Help With I am not looking primarily for marketing tactics, lead generation advice, SOPs, or generic small-business coaching. I’m looking for someone who can help me reason at a level above the operating business. Some of the questions I want to work through are: * What should my current business ultimately be *for*? * Should I scale it, simplify it, reposition it, or use it as a stepping stone? * How should I compare business ownership against employment, investing, development, or other opportunities? * What activities actually create long-term wealth versus simply creating more work? * How should I allocate the next several years of my time and capital? * Which capabilities and assets should I deliberately build now? * What business model gives me the greatest economic return per hour of my own involvement? * How should I value freedom, optionality, retained earnings, business equity, and lifestyle alongside income? * Which decisions would unnecessarily lock me into a business model that I may not ultimately want? * What would an intelligent sequence of moves look like over the next 3, 5, and 10 years? I tend to generate many possible strategies and opportunities. I’m therefore particularly interested in someone who can help me identify the important variables, challenge assumptions, create decision frameworks, and turn possibilities into a coherent strategy. ## Who I’m Looking For The ideal person has substantial real-world experience rather than only coaching credentials. Relevant backgrounds could include: * Founder / serial entrepreneur * CEO, COO, CFO, or experienced owner-operator * Strategic advisor to privately held businesses * Entrepreneurial executive coach * Business investor or capital allocator * Real-estate developer or investor * M&A / acquisition entrepreneurship * Family-business or owner-managed-business advisory * Someone who has personally scaled, sold, acquired, repositioned, or deliberately kept businesses small You do not need to be an expert in residential renovations. In fact, I am more interested in your ability to think across business models, capital allocation, ownership, career strategy, and personal objectives than in specialized construction knowledge. ## Coaching vs. Advice I’m looking for a combination of both. I appreciate Socratic questioning, but I do not want a purely nondirective coaching relationship where every question is returned with, “What do you think?” I already spend a great deal of time thinking through possibilities. I want someone who is willing to say: * “I think that assumption is wrong.” * “You’re optimizing the wrong variable.” * “This path makes money but reduces your future options.” * “Here’s what I’ve seen other entrepreneurs get wrong.” * “I would investigate this before making that decision.” * “Your numbers don’t support that conclusion.” You should be comfortable challenging me while also recognizing that the objective is not necessarily to build the largest possible company. ## What Success Would Look Like Initially, I would like to work together for several sessions to develop: 1. A clear picture of my current economic and strategic position 2. A definition of what I’m actually optimizing for 3. A comparison of the major paths available to me 4. Identification of assumptions, risks, bottlenecks, and opportunity costs 5. A 3–5 year strategic direction 6. A shorter-term set of decisions and experiments that move me toward that position without unnecessarily closing off other opportunities If the relationship is valuable, I would be interested in continuing periodically as a long-term strategic sounding board.
