Summary

Hello! I need about an hour or two of your time. I am looking for accounting advice from a person who already has lots of experience with caterers in Florida. I am currently based in NY and growing south. I provide the service by delivering and serving food at the end of weddings and parties as a surprise treat at the end of the night. We do not cook any food but simply pick it up and serve it. I am taking this model and expanding to Miami metro with it. General questions: 1. I want to setup a separate Florida LLC. What other filings do I need to do if I start taking deposits this year for events scheduled in 2027? 2. I am a caterer but do not cook. We purchase food from restaurants, transport it and serve from our station. Do I need a catering license? 3. What cadence should I file sales tax, reports etc required in Florida and federal? I’m looking to create a calendar for budgeting and projections. 4. We take a deposit to reserve a spot on our booking calendar, then the remainder is due the week of the event. How does paying sales and income tax work in that situation? 5. I’m going to invest owners capital for startup costs in 2026 and want to make sure to benefit from those tax wise. Events will occur in 2027 but may receive deposit revenue in 2026. Not sure what numbers I should shoot for in terms of overall loss or gain or it may not matter. 7. Can I get a bank account in Florida with a registered agent remotely? Or do I have to open it in person? 8. A corp election will be deferred until the business is sustainable. I am sure I have missed some important questions so will look to you to already be familiar with caterers and their businesses in the FL area. Please let me know your initial questions to give you more context so we are on the same page and can use your time effectively.
