Summary

JOB TITLE: Textile Pattern Library Audit & Quality Curation — Ka Imi Ola (Apparel) ABOUT THE BRAND Ka Imi Ola is a modern Hawaiian aloha shirt brand. Our design direction is focused on bold, graphic textile patterns featuring authentic native Hawaiian plants, rich earth-driven color palettes, and hand-cut silk-screen/linocut aesthetics (in the tradition of Hawaiian printmaking). THE PROBLEM & TASK We have a master library of ~2,400 image files across 17 folders. This library contains a mix of raw textile patterns, artwork references, design variations, and product photos. Many are duplicates. Some are exceptional pattern references. Most are unusable for production. We tried using automated AI scripts and computer vision to sort this library. They failed to capture the nuances of fabric repeat mechanics and brand aesthetic. **We need human design judgment.** We are hiring an experienced Surface Pattern / Textile Designer to systematically audit every image in our library, purge the noise, and organize our core assets into a clean, structured database. NO AI TOOLS. NO AUTOMATED SCRIPTS. We will inspect the metadata and reasoning of your audit. This job requires manual visual evaluation by a trained designer. WHAT YOU'LL DO Review every image in our library (~2,400 images across 17 subfolders) and deliver: 1. **Flag & Isolate Duplicates:** Identify identical or near-identical image files. Note which version has the highest resolution/quality to keep as the master. 2. **Four-Bucket Quality Classification:** Categorize every unique image into one of four strict tiers: - **GOLD:** Exceptional pattern design. Clean, flat orthographic rendering, immediately usable as a production reference or training target. - **SILVER:** Strong design concept, but needs minor adjustments (e.g., wrong palette, minor line-weight issues, needs seam cleanup). - **BRONZE:** Conceptual reference only. Contains a compelling motif or layout idea, but unusable as artwork in its current state. - **DISCARD:** Wrong aesthetic, AI generation artifacts, bad composition, 3D clothing/shirt photos, folded fabric, or low-resolution noise. 3. **Structured Asset Tagging:** Tag every Gold and Silver image using our standardized drop-down categories: - **Motif Family:** Botanical (Kalo, ʻUlu, Monstera, etc.), Geometric/Kapa, Ocean/Wave, Abstract/Non-Representational, Animal/Marine (Honu, etc.) - **Palette Family:** Midnight/Navy Base, Earth/Deep (Artichoke, Bison, Ochre), Vibrant/High-Contrast, Neutral/Cream (Sand, Bone White), Monochrome - **Pattern Architecture:** Seamless Tile, Placement Print, Partial Motifs, Non-Pattern Reference 4. **Folder Quality Audit:** Rank all 17 subfolders from strongest to weakest with a 2-sentence rationale for each. 5. **Quick-Win Identification:** Select the top 10 Gold images closest to production-ready, outlining the exact technical fixes needed for each. 6. **Brand Gap Analysis:** Identify missing Hawaiian botanical motifs or design styles essential for a complete collection. 7. **Library Architecture Recommendation:** Propose a standardized file-naming convention and folder structure for long-term organization. DELIVERABLES - **Master Audit Spreadsheet (Google Sheets/Excel): Itemized breakdown of all ~2,400 files tagged with Bucket, Duplicate Status, Motif Family, Palette Family, Pattern Architecture, and Brief Notes. - **Motif & Palette Distribution Report:** Summary metrics showing asset counts across all buckets and tags. - **Folder Ranking & Quality Summary Document (PDF/Doc).** - **Top 10 Quick-Wins Checklist.** - **Brand Gap Analysis & Organization Roadmap.** REQUIREMENTS - **3+ years of professional experience** in textile/surface pattern design specifically for apparel. - Deep, practical understanding of pattern repeat mechanics, line-weight scale, and color separation. - Asynchronous communication via **Email / Written Messaging ONLY** (No calls, no video meetings). - Ability to sign an NDA prior to receiving library access. - Ability to start within 48 hours of NDA execution. FUTURE WORK (PHASE 2) The designer who successfully executes this audit with high precision will be awarded **Phase 2**: Designing 5 to 10 original Hawaiian textile vector patterns in our signature bold graphic style ($800–$2,000 budget). TO APPLY Please reply with: 1. Link to your surface pattern / textile design portfolio (apparel/fabric specifically). 2. Brief summary of your experience organizing, auditing, or managing design asset libraries. 3. Confirmation that you accept an asynchronous, email/message-only workflow and can start within 48 hours. 4. Your fixed-price bid for completing the full audit scope outlined above. *Shortlisted applicants will receive a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and a 20-image sample classification test to evaluate technical pattern judgment prior to contract award.* Screening Questions **Q1:** "You'll review ~2,400 images across 17 folders. Walk me through your methodology for staying consistent across that volume. How do you avoid categorization drift after hundreds of images?" **Q2:** "What visual indicators do you use to distinguish an AI-generated textile pattern from a human-designed one? Give specific, technical examples." **Q3:** "When categorizing a pattern as Gold vs. Discard, what are your top 3 criteria? Be specific about what makes something immediately usable vs. not." **Q4:** "Describe your system for organizing and tagging large visual libraries. What tools do you use? How do you maintain consistency?" **Q5:** "If shortlisted, you'll receive a 20-image sample to classify within 24 hours. Can you confirm this timeline works for you?"
