Translators needed: short UI strings for a handheld game console (14 languages)

We're CircuitMess, a Croatian company that makes DIY electronics kits and consoles for kids. We're launching a handheld game console and need its on-screen text translated into 14 languages. THE WORK - 64 short strings (~110 words total) per language - Menu labels, button prompts, and two-line cutscene captions from 4 mini-games - Source language: English - Delivered in a Google Sheet: you fill in one column for your language CRITICAL CONSTRAINT – CHARACTER LIMIT The console screen is tiny. Every translated string must fit in a MAXIMUM OF 12 CHARACTERS (including spaces). This is not a normal translation job — it's closer to copywriting. If a literal translation is too long, we need a short, natural alternative that a 9-year-old would understand instantly. Strings that don't fit cannot be used. Other rules: - ALL CAPS output (the console font is uppercase only) - Keep the tone playful and kid-friendly, never formal - Some captions come in pairs of two lines that must read as one sentence together (e.g. "MEET ACE," / "YOUR PAL!") — translate the pair, not the lines in isolation - Placeholders like %lu must stay exactly as they are (e.g. "SCORE: %lu") - "ACE" is a character name — do not translate it, but you may adapt it grammatically if your language requires it - Button letters A and B are physical buttons — always keep them as A and B LANGUAGES NEEDED Montenegrin, Slovenian, German, French, Italian, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Portugal), Dutch, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Greek You only need to apply for the language(s) you are a NATIVE speaker of. You may apply for more than one language if you're genuinely native/near-native in both. We are hiring one translator per language. BUDGET & TIMELINE $15 fixed price per language. Turnaround: 3 days from hire. If this goes well, there will be recurring work — we add strings and new games regularly, and we have other products to localize. DO NOT USE MACHINE TRANSLATION We will check. Machine output does not respect the character limit and does not sound like a kid's game. Applications that are obviously AI-generated will be rejected without payment.
