Project Overview I'm looking for an experienced embedded hardware engineer to design and build a complete hardware prototype for an affordable wearable head-controlled input device designed to help people with limited hand mobility use computers and smart devices. The goal is to create a lightweight, compact, and affordable assistive technology solution. I will develop the firmware myself. Your responsibility will be the hardware design, PCB development, prototype assembly, enclosure design, and delivery of a fully functional hardware prototype. An NDA will be required before sharing detailed product information. Project Requirements The device should be: Very small and lightweight Comfortable for extended wearable use Battery powered Low power consumption Designed with future manufacturing in mind Affordable compared to existing assistive devices Preferred Hardware Platform Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840 Sense (or equivalent) 9-axis IMU sensor (such as SparkFun 9DoF or equivalent) USB-C charging LiPo battery Battery protection and charging circuit Compact custom PCB Programming/debug interface Minimal external components Scope of Work The engineer will be responsible for: Hardware architecture Component selection Schematic design Miniaturized PCB design PCB layout Power management design Battery charging circuit Sensor integration Prototype PCB fabrication PCB assembly Hardware testing Compact 3D printed enclosure design Prototype assembly Deliverables Fully assembled working prototype Custom PCB Schematic files PCB layout files Gerber files BOM Assembly documentation Native CAD files STEP/STL enclosure files Manufacturing documentation The final hardware should be ready for firmware development and testing. Required Skills Embedded hardware design PCB design (KiCad preferred) Wearable electronics Miniaturized electronics Nordic nRF52 experience IMU sensors and motion tracking LiPo battery systems USB-C power design Low-power electronics 3D CAD design Prototype manufacturing Preferred Experience Experience with: Assistive technology Accessibility devices Wearable electronics Bluetooth peripherals Battery-powered consumer devices is a plus. Proposal Requirements Please include: Examples of wearable or compact electronic devices you have designed PCB design samples Photos/videos of working prototypes Your role in previous projects Estimated timeline Estimated cost Intellectual Property This is a work-for-hire project. All hardware designs, PCB files, CAD files, documentation, and related intellectual property created during this project will belong exclusively to me after completion.
