Summary

We are looking for an experienced WordPress developer to provide ongoing development support across several existing WordPress websites. This is primarily custom development work, not page-builder or plugin configuration. You should be comfortable jumping into an unfamiliar custom theme, understanding how it has been built, troubleshooting issues, and making changes without disrupting existing functionality. Typical work may include: Updating and extending existing custom WordPress themes PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript development Creating or modifying custom Gutenberg blocks and theme components Troubleshooting layout, functionality and compatibility issues Working with custom post types, taxonomies, templates and WordPress hooks Integrating or modifying third-party plugins where required Debugging existing code written by other developers Making responsive/front-end adjustments based on designs or screenshots Working in staging environments and deploying changes safely Using Git/version control and maintaining clean, documented code Testing changes to ensure existing functionality is not affected What we're looking for: Strong experience with custom WordPress theme development Strong PHP and WordPress development fundamentals Experience working with Gutenberg/custom blocks Ability to quickly understand an existing codebase Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills Excellent attention to detail Comfortable working independently with limited supervision Good communication and realistic estimates before starting work Ability to identify potential issues before making changes Important: We're specifically looking for a developer, rather than someone whose WordPress experience is primarily Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or other page builders. We are also looking for an indidual not to work with a team. This would begin with individual development tasks, with the potential for ongoing work across multiple client websites for the right person. Tell us about a time you inherited an existing custom WordPress theme. What did you need to change and how did you approach understanding the codebase? What is your experience building or modifying custom Gutenberg blocks? Please provide an example. A production WordPress site has a custom component that works on some pages but breaks on others. Walk us through how you would troubleshoot it.
