WordPress Developer & SEO Implementation Assistant — Ongoing Work
Worldwide
We are an Australian digital performance consultancy looking for a reliable **junior-to-mid-level WordPress developer with practical SEO skills** to work with us on an ongoing basis. This is primarily a **technical implementation role**, not a senior SEO strategy or digital marketing position. We manage the strategy, priorities and work plans for our clients. You will be responsible for accurately implementing website, SEO and digital performance activities under our direction. ## What You'll Be Doing Your work will include: * Building and maintaining WordPress websites * Creating professional landing pages and service pages * Publishing and formatting articles and blog content * Implementing supplied designs, content and optimisation briefs * Improving existing WordPress pages and website layouts * On-page SEO implementation * Meta titles and descriptions * Heading and content structure * Internal linking * Image optimisation * Schema implementation * Redirects, canonicals and indexing-related tasks * WordPress performance and Core Web Vitals optimisation * Plugin and theme maintenance * Website backups, migrations and routine maintenance * Basic hosting, DNS and SSL troubleshooting * Diagnosing WordPress errors and plugin conflicts * Identifying and resolving common technical website problems * Working with Google Search Console * Working with GA4 * Performing routine technical SEO checks * Testing changes across desktop and mobile * Recording completed work and providing clear progress updates You will normally be provided with clearly defined actions and priorities through our internal Digital Performance management system. ## Most Important Skills We are particularly interested in someone who is technically strong with WordPress. You should be comfortable taking an existing WordPress website and independently investigating issues, making changes, improving pages and implementing technical optimisation. You should have practical experience with: * WordPress * Common WordPress page builders * Responsive website design * HTML/CSS and basic website code * Website speed optimisation * Core Web Vitals * Plugins and themes * Hosting environments * DNS and SSL * Google Search Console * GA4 * Technical SEO * On-page SEO * Website troubleshooting You do **not** need to be an advanced SEO strategist. SEO strategy, keyword strategy, content planning and priorities will generally be provided to you. ## Design Capability Is Important We don't just want someone who can technically make a page work. You should have a good eye for modern website design and be capable of building **clean, professional, high-quality WordPress pages and landing pages** from supplied content and direction. Please provide examples of WordPress websites or landing pages that you have personally built. ## Content Writing Excellent English communication is important, but you do not need to be a professional copywriter. Most substantial written content can be supplied to you. Being able to make minor content edits, improve formatting and recognise obvious SEO/content issues is an advantage. ## Problem Solving This is important. We don't expect you to know how to solve every technical problem immediately. We **do** expect you to be comfortable investigating problems, identifying likely causes, researching solutions, testing carefully and communicating clearly when something requires specialist assistance. Attention to detail is extremely important. ## What We're Looking For Ideally you will have approximately **2–5 years of practical WordPress experience** and be looking for a reliable long-term client relationship. We are looking for someone who is: * Technically capable * Reliable * Organised * Detail-oriented * Responsive * Comfortable following structured work plans * Able to work independently * Willing to learn our systems and processes * Interested in an ongoing working relationship Initial workload is expected to be approximately 15–20 hours per month, with the opportunity for this to increase as you demonstrate your capability, reliability and fit with our way of working. ## To Apply Please include: 1. Your hourly rate. 2. Your normal weekly availability. 3. Your timezone and typical working hours. 4. 3–5 examples of WordPress websites or landing pages you personally built. 5. A brief description of your WordPress experience. 6. Your experience with technical SEO. 7. Your experience with Google Search Console and GA4. 8. An example of a difficult WordPress or website problem you diagnosed and resolved. Please also start your application with the words **"Digital Performance"** so we know you have read the full job description. We are looking for an individual freelancer rather than an agency. For the right person, this is intended to become a **long-term ongoing role working across multiple Australian business websites.**
