YouTube Documentary Scriptwriter [Geography/Mountains]
Worldwide
Hey there! We are looking for an experienced, self-sufficient YouTube documentary scriptwriter for a long-term collaboration with an established geography channel focused primarily on mountains, extreme landscapes and unusual places on Earth. Our videos are typically around 10 minutes long and combine documentary narration with footage, Google Earth, maps and graphics. We provide the topic and title. The writer independently researches the subject, develops the storyline and delivers a polished, fact-checked, ready-to-edit script. Most importantly, we need someone who can work independently and make strong editorial decisions without requiring extensive rewriting or coaching. Storytelling & Research A good script is not a collection of interesting facts. Each section should naturally create interest in the next. The finished video should feel like one continuous story rather than separate chapters about the same subject. Viewer retention is the priority after factual accuracy. Our audience includes serious geography enthusiasts, mountaineers and map nerds. Claims must be independently researched and verified. We strongly prefer concrete facts, meaningful comparisons and unusual geographic details over generic descriptions. AI Use Using AI is completely fine for research assistance, brainstorming, structure, fact-checking and improving wording. However, we are not looking for someone who asks AI to write a script and then sends us the result. We can do that ourselves. When AI is used, the writer remains responsible for every fact and every sentence delivered. Writing & Production KEEP IT SIMPLE. Many viewers are not native English speakers. Scripts should use clear language, short sentences and natural transitions. The facts should create the drama — not sensationalism. The writer must also consider what the editor can actually show while the narration is being heard. Our scripts use a simple three-column structure: finished voice-over, revisions/comments, and Notes for Editor containing useful visual suggestions, graphics and search terms. Voice-over scripts are approximately 1,400–1,600 words. The finished delivery should be ready for production, not a first draft requiring extensive editorial work. To prove that you have read this carefully, please begin your response with the words “Mountain scripts”. We will not reply otherwise. Application Would you be willing to write a short sample for us? This way you really get a feeling about what we are looking for and we get an idea about what you can do. 🙂 If yes, please feel free to open the link below. It contains the working title, detailed instructions, an example, and the template for your sample. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GOhUgVn9hdHjKT5yEI9YsK_2Ax8DhDopOaa-_Ea4xCA/edit?tab=t.0 We look forward to hearing from you.
