YouTube Packaging Genius

Summary

We are looking for an elite YouTube packaging strategist who specializes in developing high-performing titles and thumbnail concepts. This is not a graphic-design position. You will not be expected to build the final thumbnails. We already have designers and a production team. We need the person who develops the idea behind the thumbnail: What is the strongest way to package the video? What emotional trigger should we use? What creates the most compelling curiosity gap? What should the thumbnail show? What should the title say—and what should it intentionally leave unanswered? How should the title and thumbnail work together without repeating each other? We produce content for multiple established personalities, experts, podcasts, and YouTube channels. We need someone who can watch or review an episode, identify its most clickable angle, and turn that angle into several strategically distinct title-and-thumbnail packages. What You Will Do For each video, you may be asked to: Review an episode, transcript, outline, or selected clips. Identify the strongest audience problem, promise, consequence, or surprising idea. Develop multiple title and thumbnail concept combinations. Create genuine curiosity without misleading the viewer. Explain what the thumbnail should visually communicate. Identify useful moments, expressions, props, comparisons, scans, graphics, or source images. Evaluate competing concepts and recommend the strongest package. Analyze channel history, competitors, outliers, CTR, retention, and performance patterns. Participate in a weekly strategy meeting covering several videos and channels. We are especially interested in someone who understands the difference between: A good-looking thumbnail and a clickable thumbnail. Curiosity and empty clickbait. A title that repeats the thumbnail and a title that completes it. General YouTube advice and audience-specific packaging strategy. Optimizing for clicks and attracting viewers who will actually watch. Initial Paid Tests We will begin with one or more paid test assignments. For each test, we will provide the video, transcript, channel context, and relevant performance data. You will be expected to deliver: Your analysis of the strongest packaging angles. At least three meaningfully different title-and-thumbnail combinations. A concise visual brief for each thumbnail. Your reasoning behind each concept. Your recommended winner and why you believe it will perform. Any additional footage, photographs, expressions, props, or graphics the designer will need. These are paid tests. We are not asking applicants to complete speculative work for free. If the tests go well, our goal is to bring you into a recurring weekly meeting where we strategize titles and thumbnails for multiple upcoming videos with our creative team. Who We Want You may be a strong fit if you have: Demonstrable experience packaging successful YouTube videos. A deep understanding of titles, thumbnails, curiosity gaps, viewer psychology, and audience intent. Experience analyzing outliers and applying those findings without simply copying competitors. The ability to develop concepts for interviews, podcasts, experts, educational content, health, wellness, business, or personality-driven channels. Strong instincts combined with evidence, testing, and analytics. The confidence to challenge a weak premise and explain what would make it stronger. Experience participating in creative or packaging meetings with producers, creators, editors, and designers. We are looking for someone who thinks at an exceptionally high level. Please do not apply if your primary experience is general social media management, video editing, SEO, channel uploading, or graphic design. Those skills may be valuable, but they are not what we are hiring for. How to Apply Please answer the following: What channels or individual videos have you personally helped package? What parts of the packaging did you personally develop? Please provide three to five examples showing the title, thumbnail, view performance, and your specific contribution. Where possible, include CTR, watch-time, view velocity, outlier score, or before-and-after results. Walk us through one title-and-thumbnail combination you developed. What was the curiosity gap, and how did the title and thumbnail work together? How do you determine whether weak performance is caused by packaging, topic selection, audience mismatch, or the video itself? What information would you want from us before developing concepts for a video? What is your availability for recurring weekly strategy meetings? Please begin your application with the words “PACKAGING FIRST” so we know you read the complete post. Generic applications, unexplained portfolios, and AI-generated lists of thumbnail tips will not be considered. We care most about your thinking, your direct contribution, and evidence that your packaging decisions have produced results. This opportunity can develop into a consistent, long-term working relationship across multiple channels for the right strategist.
