YouTube Shorts Writer — TV Recap Clips

Posted 3 days ago

Summary

I run a YouTube channel with 70,000 subscribers. We are launching a daily Shorts operation and I need a writer to find the moments and write the specs. The source material is existing TV footage. You don't need to know the shows and you don't need to care about them. I'll give you the episodes. What I need is someone who can watch raw footage and see the story in it. **What you'd actually do** - You search for and watch episodes and find the 30 seconds worth clipping. For each one you send me a short spec sheet: the title, the source episode, exact timestamps for each beat, and one sentence of voiceover. That's it. No essays, no scripts, no long narration. **What I need you to be good at** - Structure. Somebody gets insulted at minute 14 and proves them wrong at minute 41, and you can see that those two things belong together and make a story. That's the skill. Everything else I can teach you. - Hooks. Writing a title and a first line that stop someone mid-scroll. We have a specific house format and I'll train you on it, but you need the instinct underneath it. - Being precise with timestamps. My editor cuts from what you write. If your timestamp is off by ten seconds they can't work. **This is probably not for you if** - You want to write long-form narration or video essays. This is not that job. - You want creative freedom over the format. The format is fixed, and it's fixed because it works. - You need the subject matter to be interesting to you personally. This is craft work on someone else's footage. - You can't do the searching to find the videos yourself **How this starts** - One paid task, $25. A single spec sheet. I'll send you the format guide, the source episode and exactly what I'm looking for. - If it's good, I'll bring you on for ongoing work, around 30 spec sheets a month at $25 each, delivered weekly. Examples of the finished product - The channel to study is ChefsArc. They are the best in this space by a distance and every one of these is around 30 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JEUu4sEH-io https://www.youtube.com/shorts/p7Fme7oyHFs https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7NJLSbpUADo https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC71cE2GxleenAqpv2ZIz87Q/shorts Start every spec sheet at 30 seconds. Once you've proven the format we'll go longer. ---ALSO NOTE--- Hard requirement: you have written short-form video before. Shorts, TikTok or Reels. Short-form is a different craft from long-form and I don't have time to teach that part. Please don't send me long-form video scripts, essays or blog posts as samples. I won't read them. Thank you. I look forward to meeting you! Evan
