# Full-Stack Developer for Interactive Educational iPad Experience ## Project Overview We are seeking an experienced full-stack developer to build a polished, web-based interactive educational experience designed for use on a dedicated, internet-connected iPad. This is not a downloadable mobile application. It is a touchscreen web application designed for repeated public use by people of all ages. We have already created a working prototype and defined the primary interaction flow using AI-assisted design tools. We are now looking for a developer who can transform the prototype into a reliable, production-ready application. ## About the Experience The product is a digital scientific observation activity focused on African penguins. Users will be able to: * Observe penguins * Select a penguin to study * Record observed behaviors * Tally behaviors over time * Add written notes * Create a digital scientific sketch * Respond to reflection prompts * Contribute observations to a shared dataset * Explore visualizations based on observations from other users * Optionally email themselves a summary of their observations and drawing The experience should feel playful, intuitive, and accessible while maintaining the authenticity of a scientific observation activity. ## Scope of Work ### User Experience Develop a touchscreen-friendly experience that includes: * Welcome and introduction screen * Penguin selection interface * Guided observation workflow * Behavior tallying system * Note-taking interface * Touch-enabled drawing and sketch canvas * Reflection prompts * Individual results and summary screen * Optional email capture and report delivery * Clear session completion and reset flow ### Shared Data Features Create user-facing visualizations that may include: * Most frequently observed penguin behaviors * Observation trends over time * Total participation metrics * Recent observations * Aggregate observation data The visualizations should be engaging, easy to understand, and appropriate for a broad audience. ### Administration Features Build a simple, password-protected dashboard that allows administrators to: * View observation statistics * Review participation metrics * Browse recent submissions * Export observation data * Review notes and drawings, as appropriate * Monitor basic application activity ## Technical Requirements Our preferred technology stack is: * React or Next.js * Supabase preferred, with Firebase also acceptable * Responsive web application optimized for iPad * Cloud-hosted deployment * Email integration using Resend, SendGrid, or a comparable service The application should: * Launch directly into a kiosk-ready experience * Support full-screen touchscreen interaction * Recover gracefully after inactivity or an incomplete session * Automatically reset between users * Support repeated use throughout the day * Handle intermittent user input without becoming stuck * Be simple to operate and maintain * Include appropriate validation, error handling, and session management * Be structured so future enhancements can be added efficiently Experience configuring iPad kiosk mode, Guided Access, or a comparable browser-based kiosk setup is highly valuable. ## Deliverables The selected developer will be responsible for delivering: * Production-ready web application * Responsive iPad-optimized interface * Source code repository * Database configuration and schema * Hosting and deployment configuration * Email delivery workflow * Basic administrator dashboard * Data export functionality * Session reset and inactivity handling * Deployment and maintenance documentation * Knowledge transfer session ## Ideal Candidate We are particularly interested in developers or teams with experience building: * Interactive educational products * Public touchscreen experiences * Kiosk applications * Visitor-facing digital experiences * Drawing or annotation tools * Data visualization interfaces * Applications designed for children and families Strong attention to usability, reliability, and visual polish is important.
