AI illustrator for serialized vintage adventure comic
Worldwide
Illustrator / AI Visual Artist for Serialized Vintage Adventure Comic — Ongoing Project We are looking for a talented AI illustrator visual artist to help develop an ongoing series of illustrated stories for a premium consumer brand. The project consists of several original recurring characters, each appearing in serialized 10-panel illustrated stories designed primarily for Instagram and other digital marketing. We have already developed the characters, story concepts, visual direction, and detailed production briefs. We are looking for an artist who can take that direction and create consistent, polished illustrated panels across an ongoing series. The First Project The first assignment is a 10-panel story set in the Caribbean in 1935. The visual world includes: Period clothing, luggage, vehicles and architecture Adventure, mystery and understated humor A sophisticated vintage pulp / illustrated graphic-novel aesthetic We will provide: Character reference artwork A character and visual-style guide Story overview Detailed creative brief for each panel Exact dialogue/captions where applicable Continuity requirements Specific MUST INCLUDE and MUST NOT INCLUDE instructions The attached image is an example of the visual direction for the first panel and the general quality/detail level we are targeting. Visual Style We are looking for premium AI illustrated storytelling, not photorealistic AI imagery. The desired aesthetic combines: Vintage adventure illustration + classic pulp comics + sophisticated modern graphic-novel production. Artwork should feature strong inked linework, realistic anatomy, controlled cross-hatching, painterly environments, subtle vintage print texture, cinematic composition, and historically believable detail. The finished work should feel intentionally illustrated—not like an AI-generated photograph with a comic filter applied. All final panels will be produced in 4:5 portrait format (1080 × 1350). AI Illustration Because of the volume of images needed we are looking for AI illustrators, but we are not looking for someone who simply enters the creative brief into an image generator and sends us the result. The artist must be able to control and correct: Character consistency Facial appearance Clothing Hands and anatomy Historical details Recurring locations and objects Aircraft and vehicle design Composition Speech bubbles and text Number and placement of characters Continuity between panels Consistency Is Extremely Important This is one of the most important parts of the assignment. A recurring character must look like the same person from panel to panel and story to story. Likewise, recurring aircraft, clothing, environments and supporting characters cannot randomly change between images. We are looking for someone who understands that producing a serialized illustrated story is different from creating ten unrelated attractive images. Potential Scope The initial assignment will be one 10-panel story. If the collaboration is successful, this could become a substantial ongoing project. We currently envision approximately: 3 principal characters 10 initial stories per character 10 illustrated panels per story That represents approximately 300 illustrated panels in the initial planned program, with the potential for additional stories and brand artwork afterward. We would strongly prefer to develop a long-term relationship with one artist or a small team rather than continually changing artists. What We Are Looking For - The ideal artist has experience with some combination of: Comic or graphic-novel illustration Pulp / vintage illustration AI illustration Character consistency workflows Photoshop / digital compositing Cinematic composition Historical or period artwork Advertising / commercial illustration Experience creating sequential artwork with recurring characters is particularly valuable. When Applying Please send us 3–6 examples that are most relevant to this project. We would rather see a few highly relevant examples than an entire portfolio. If you use AI in your workflow, please briefly explain how you create consistency across multiple scenes and how you make revisions when a generated image is 80–90% correct but one specific element needs to change. Please also tell us: What tools/software/models you normally use. Whether you personally handle retouching/compositing after generation. Your approximate price per finished panel or per 10-panel story for an ongoing project of this size. Your typical turnaround time for a 10-panel story. Whether you would be interested in a long-term project potentially involving several hundred panels. Please do not send a generic proposal. We are specifically interested in understanding how you would maintain visual continuity across a serialized illustrated story.
