Books I have twenty years of experience working with and for major book publishers/authors. I am an expert in taking a book manuscript through its final stages. This includes copy editing (in Microsoft Word) and book design/typesetting (in Adobe InDesign). I am a skilled copy editor, book designer, typesetter, and proofreader. I specialize in correcting grammar, syntax, and punctuation issues. I can help you steer clear of three big mistakes that self-publishers make: Mistake Number One: Trying to format and print a book in Microsoft Word. Word is the industry standard word processor. Use it to write and edit your book manuscript. However, although people do it every day, I strongly urge you to not use Word to typeset your book. Adobe InDesign is the industry standard for book layout and typesetting, and that is what you should use. Mistake Number Two: Typesetting the book manuscript before all editing is finished. Developmental editing, line editing, copy editing, and a very thorough first round of proofreading should be done in Word before the manuscript is imported into InDesign. Mistake Number Three: Not having a style guide for your book project (and not applying it consistently). My default style guide is Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS). My default dictionary is Merriam-Webster Unabridged. However, many style issues are matters of personal preference (what words/terms are lowercased, what words/terms are uppercased, how numbers and dates are written, variations in spelling that can go either way, etc.). The important thing is to be consistent. I can assist you in creating a style guide for your book that will help guide the entire editing process. I specialize in interior pages design and layout of nonfiction books (although I will be glad to help you with your fiction book too). Music I am a veteran of the music industry. I have a four-year degree from the University of Memphis with a major in commercial music production. I have worked in the studio and shared the stage with artists who: (1) played at Woodstock, (2) are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and (3) have had number one Billboard hits.
