A keen eye for grammar, order, and clarity, along with a good sense of story, enables me to communicate precisely or correct or improve upon your written work. A native English speaker with a breadth of aptitudes, including writing and poetry, growing up, I majored in engineering at the University of Tennessee and enjoyed a career in computer programming with IBM before taking time away to raise my family. During my ten-year programming career I gained experience in writing user and operations materials, technical papers, and communications. During my children's growing-up years I did a variety of kinds of creative writing just for fun. Between my school and parenting years I won four different creative writing contests and was published in my college literary magazine. After hanging out my shingle with Upwork I began to do a considerable volume of children's writing, technical editing, and adult nonfiction books. In addition, for Upwork clients I've written poetry, blog posts, poetry in advertising jingles, song lyrics, and items of ESL and ELA curricula. In addition, I've provided ongoing editing for non-native English writers. Known for my painstaking attention to detail and persistent pursuit of excellence, I'm as well suited to the production of precise factual information as to the creation of artfully-crafted story and emotion. Areas of particular personal interest include: * Christian life and faith * children's writing - both fiction and nonfiction, rhymed and unrhymed * history * family and parenting * education and learning differences * English as a second language (eight years' teaching experience) * poetry - writing and editing * personal stories/family projects * technical / science / computer (editing and sometimes writing) * curriculum writing and editing - mathematics, computer programming, English * lyrics * business names and slogans, marketing communications * nature, outdoors * amateur photography, photo book making FEE STRUCTURE HOURLY RATE PREFERRED: I greatly appreciate clients who are willing to honor my conscientious work by arranging an hourly rate. Willing to negotiate, especially for a bigger job or repeat client. I log only actual work time. I do not log the time spent in communication during a project, and I try not to charge for reasonable revision. The following is a guide for fixed rates, when necessary. * Writing one children's story + one revision + one final edit 100 - 500 words: $125 (To produce a well-crafted story in few words takes much time.) 500 - 1000 words: $200 every additional 500 words - +$75 If we are contracting for multiple stories, some discount may be arranged. * Other writing Ten cents or more per word, depending on the project. Will I need to do research? Do I need to write from someone else's work, organizing and reworking it, etc.? What is expected in the way of revision/final editing? * Editing Proofing or Light copy editing: $15 per page Heavy copyediting / substantive editing: $25 per page Developmental editing: $10 per page

Editor-in-Chief of Blue Literary Magazine and Storm of Blue Press, intersectional feminist, mental health advocate, experienced publisher, LGBTQ+ sensitivity reader, confessional poet, proofreader, editorial associate, and social media manager with a history of team-building, creativity, and developing talent and passion in others. Through building a website, running professional social media campaigns, and publishing numerous literary magazine issues, I have become adept in innumerable skills. As part of a previous project, I built and published a poetry book from the ground up (a long exposure of undoing by Sarah "Sam" Saltiel), which included purchasing an ISBN, obtaining copyright, attaining a library of Congress number, commissioning a cover, and editing and formatting the interior via Adobe Suite. I have also acted as a sensitivity reader for numerous projects and offer this skillset for material discussing: gender identity, trans/nonbinary topics, lesbian-specific storylines, and neurodivergent/mental health issues (primarily anxiety, depression, BPD, C-PTSD, and ADHD). Additionally, I have worked as a copyeditor and proofreader for various manuscripts, academic papers, and television scripts. Most recently, I have flourished as a social media manager for several minority-owned accounts, specializing in mental health health spaces and working primarily for therapists, psychiatrists, & wellness organizations. Between growing organic engagement, maintaining cohesive brand strategies, and creating unique content, I have proven invaluable to my clients. As a nonbinary lesbian, I am passionate about helping those in the LGBTQ community, along with other minority groups. I currently live in Atlanta with my husky, am an ethical vegan, and try to better the world around me. I would love to connect with you further!

As a teacher of writing for many years, I have perfected my skills in a variety of genre and topics and am able to fill several writing niches. Here is an overview of the many services I offer: A. Children’s Rhyming Stories While we are on the subject of poetry, one of my skills which I especially enjoy performing is writing children’s stories in rhyming verse. Most of my stories teach a moral lesson or educate. The characters I create are unique and engaging for young audiences. I currently provide stories for a number of children’s publishing companies. B. Poetry I write special occasion and “gift” poems. Just tell me what you want included in your poem and give me a deadline; I’m on it! You wouldn’t believe some of the things people have hired me to write poems about; I once wrote a beautiful tribute to an ink pen. Yes, an ink pen! Just imagine what I can create for you to mark your special occasion or to honor a loved one! You will find my poetry creative and original. I do not tolerate triteness in my verse. One client used the word “phenomenal” to describe my poetry on command skills. See what you think. C. Ghostwriting Do you need help telling your story or writing your memoirs? I can turn your thoughts into an engaging work of art you will be proud of. D. Christian/Faith Based Articles I am a lifelong Christian Believer and student of the Word. I even minored in Bible at a Christian University. I currently write articles for several Christian websites and publications. I write inspirational pieces as well as exegetical. My background as a mother, public school teacher, and Sunday school teacher has given me the necessary skills to write on a child’s level when commissioned to do so, as well. I have a clear and mature understanding of Scripture and always supply “book, chapter, and verse” support for what I write. I may expound, but the Holy Spirit is the Final Word in any matter. E. English Language Arts Educational Materials I am a certified secondary ELA teacher with 30 years of experience. I have taught all diversified learning levels from special education up through senior year Advanced Placement. I write lesson plans, curriculum, assessments, literary reviews, and preparatory materials for national and state exams such as A.P. Language, A.P. Literature, SAT, ACT, etc. F. General Common Interest Articles Some of my work includes articles on current events, informational materials for non-profit and other organizations, op-ed pieces, etc. I am happy to write articles requiring a little research, but I may have to command a higher rate for such pieces, of course, depending upon the depth and scope of research required. Disclaimer: In the interest of transparency, I will tell you that if you are seeking a technical writer, I am not the droid you are looking for. I never learned to program a VCR. If you are young and don’t know what that is, Google it. We have many talented technical writers here at UpWork, however, so you will have no problem finding someone to “satisfy that niche,” if you have it. You don’t want me to write articles about how to manage stock portfolios or instruction in auto mechanics, either. We would both be disappointed with the results. I will not do your homework for you, so don’t bother to forward to me your teacher/professor’s instructions for your latest assignment. On the other hand, I would be happy to take a look at what you have written and serve as an extra pair of eyes to look it over for grammar/usage/mechanics errors and to make stylistic suggestions for revision. G. Editing See paragraph above. H. Book Reviews I’d love to read your work and write a blurb for the cover! If I can’t say anything nice, I won’t take your money. Deal? I hope you have enjoyed reading my profile overview. More importantly, I hope you have discovered that I am the most suitable candidate to fill your freelancing needs. If not, keep searching through the UpWork files. I have no doubt you will find the right person for your job! You may scroll to my general resume information to see where I have worked in the brick and mortar world, where I went to school, yadda yadda. Reviews and Feedback from some of my other clients are also on this page. I invite you to peruse my portfolio to see a small sampling of my work. Sincerely, Melanie Mathis Miller "The Write Type"

For me, words are only the juice, the fruit cannot be spoken of. If you are looking for great words, words that echo far beyond the mind and linger within you, then the words must be only a by-product; a fragrance which emanates from some indescribable place. In other words, there are lots of technically good writers, but very few inspired ones. Which one am I? Both, I hope. But only you can find out. Writing has been my passion since I could pick up a pen. For many years this expressed itself primarily through music and lyrics. As I got older, however, I began to write stories, poems and essays. Over the last few years I have authored two books - fiction and non-fiction. My love of music has never waned and I continue to write, produce and perform my own songs. Although my love of writing lies in its creative freedom, I have a deep interest in style and structure. Rigour and pith should enhance poetic licence, not stifle it. I am always learning, always gathering new tools, and always a beginner. Writing is an extension of my life. My love of philosophy, meditation, spirituality and the essence of things provides a constant flow of creative energy. I spend a lot of time travelling with my girlfriend, two year old son and dog. I love surfing, cooking, and living as freely as possible. For better or worse, I fought formal education as though it was my mortal enemy. Life education, however, I embraced with wide-eyed wonder and still do. This, I feel, has allowed me to discover my own voice and unique knowledge base. I can help you or your project do the same - all we have to do is find that inner fruit and squeeze it.

Robert Walcott is a screenwriter and novelist. He’s originally from Chicago, where he was raised on a steady diet of Amblin-era movies. He won his high school’s 1988 Best Picture Oscar for the very unfunny comedy, To Kill a Mocking Nerd. After a stint in the US Navy, he earned a degree in Speech Communication from Eastern Illinois University, married his college sweetheart, and relocated to Los Angeles to break into the Hollywood screenwriting trade. Inspired by his Amblin-rich childhood, he created screenplays and stories that champion imagination and encourage fantasy. He’s written or co-written 25 screenplays and seven books (for accolades, see below). His fantasy/comedy Saturday Morning Siege—featuring nerdy best friends who invite a creepy classmate into their imaginary war with action figures—made a splash on the spec market and earned him meetings around town, including Steven Spielberg’s old Amblin offices on the Universal lot. He’s been insufferable ever since. Hi, I'm Jo. I love creative writing, crafting and horse riding. I started writing for my friends as part of a writing circle at university (I have a BA in Archaeology and an MA in museum studies) and went on to self published the result. After university I put writing on hold and worked in administration for eight years before leaving when I had my first daughter. After she was born I took up writing again and penned my first children's book (illustrated by my father). Since then I have gone on to write two further picture books and a short chapter book for children, all of which available on Amazon. More recently I've ghostwritten several children's books and stories for Upwork clients and began to work on a few YA fiction projects too. I have written product descriptions before for Etsy items and also worked on display descriptions in a museum setting, created quizzes and meditations. My current published works - - Squirly Squirrel - There's a Dinosaur in my Soup - T-rex ate my toothbrush - A Pup Called Shaefer - Quest for the Dragon's Eye (under pen name)

I finished high school at the German school A. Weberbauer and completed a career in Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de Lima. As a teenager, I wrote adventure stories motivated by the family environment: distribution and exhibition of films. Besides my writing career, I’m working as an editor, translator, and educational consultant. I teach narrative, storytelling and script at the Toulouse Lautrec Higher Education School and creative writing at the Extra Academic Studies Directorate of Universidad del Pacífico. I studied for a master’s degree in University Teaching and Educational Management at the Universidad Tecnológica del Perú. In the past 13 years, I’ve published adventure, fantasy, and science fiction books in Perú through prestigious publishers: Ediciones SM (Santa María), Bruño, and Santillana.

I have been telling stories consistently since I was performing puppet shows for my family in the living room. While my puppet friends and I have parted ways, I still cannot stop myself from seeking out stories. In 2012 I began working on my own personal humor blog satirizing culture, politics, and myself. Working with kids from 2016 to 2019 also gave me an insight into young minds, helping me develop my own sense of creativity and imagination. While studying to get my degree in Writing from Eastern University, I discovered my passion for collaboration as editor-in-chief of Inklings, the college literary magazine. I also had the opportunity to write several short plays alongside the actors that would be performing in them, which was a valuable lesson in learning how to write for and with other people. I am constantly using this skill as a freelancer, balancing my own creative voice with the needs of my clients. My favorite projects have been the children's books, middle grade books, and young adult novels that I have ghostwritten. However, I can write for any age, and have written many genres, from humor, to science fiction, to fantasy, and thriller. For me, the most rewarding aspect of writing is helping others find their voices through believable characters and intriguing plots. This is not the only way to tell a story, though, as I have also helped create various funny scripts for YouTube, the stage, and other types of media. Is your story already written, you just need someone else to take a look and suggest improvements? I can edit it as well, telling you the hard truths while sticking to your vision. If you have a story you'd like to tell, feel free to reach out and I'd love to discuss how I can help! I can work on hourly projects, or write at a fixed rate of $0.18 per word (for books of 10,000+ words) or $0.20 per word (for books below 10,000 words). My editing rate is around $0.09 per word, depending on how extensive the edits need to be.
