Greetings, my name is Derrick. Music Producer by day, UX Researcher by night. As a producer and as a researcher I love hearing my client's vision and bringing it all to life. You can count on me to find the bugs in your app and conduct heaps of research, all without missing a beat. I bring a positive mindset to work, manage my time exceptionally and have a keen sense for details. I originally got into UX Research after not being able to find a decent project management app for managing music projects. I needed an app that could handle diagramming, audio files, encryption and multiple ways to view the same data. The lack of such an app in the market sent me spiraling into a new passion; UX Research. Whenever I spoke to people about my work--as a musician--they were often surprised by how much software my job required. Most couldn't relate directly, however they faced their own UX nightmares of frozen windows, buttons that were too small and software crucial to their jobs not working when they needed it most. Through networking I lucked upon this same conversation, but this time, with two UX/UI Developers. On two separate occasions I was informed to look into UX Research; once I did I was in absolute love with the field. Today my work consists of music production, audio engineering and--drumroll--UX Research + UX Design Assistance. Research has always been a passion of mine; from logging and comparing stats on the best MP3 player I wanted for Christmas as a teen and now as an adult I still conduct market research during my spare time by tracking changes and keeping notes on the music industry, the tech industry and even the automobile industry. I love organizing notes, and spotting out new markets and products before they hit the public. Outside of contract work my passion is in leading and coaching entrepreneurs. I teach time management skills, project management skills and help aspiring entrepreneurs find the right apps to help bring all the pieces of their projects together. Ultimately, my goal is to do meaningful work, make life easier to navigate for anyone I cross paths with and then retire to do sync licensing, film animation and continue to provide guidance to future entrepreneurs.
