About Us The Woolly Thistle is an established e-commerce business specializing in high-quality woolly wool and knitting products, with a strong and engaged community of knitters. We’re looking for an experienced Shopify developer to become an ongoing development partner for our business. We have a number of improvements and custom features we’d like to tackle, and we're looking for someone who can not only build them, but also help us identify opportunities, recommend solutions, and make sure our Shopify store is technically sound and scalable. What We’re Looking For Initially, we’d like this person to: Audit our existing Shopify site and identify technical issues, performance opportunities, unnecessary complexity, and areas for improvement Help us prioritize and implement technical fixes Develop new custom Shopify functionality and customer experiences Improve existing features and workflows Advise us on the best technical approach when we're deciding between apps, theme customization, or custom development Become a reliable development resource as new Shopify projects arise We’re less interested in finding someone who simply executes tickets and more interested in finding an experienced developer who can understand our business, think through problems with us, and recommend smart, maintainable solutions. Our First Major Project: Custom Kit Builder One of the first substantial projects we'd like to tackle is a Custom Knitting Kit Builder. A significant part of our business is selling knitting kits that contain the yarn and pattern needed to make a particular project. Currently, customers select from predefined size and colorway variants. This becomes more complicated with colorwork projects, where a pattern might require several different yarn colors. We curate color combinations for customers, but we'd also like to give them the ability to create their own. We envision a tool where a customer could select their size, choose a curated colorway or build their own, select a yarn color for each color used in the pattern, and automatically receive the correct quantities based on their size. We don't necessarily want to replicate this implementation exactly. We'd like our developer to help us determine the best way to accomplish something similar within our existing Shopify setup. Who We're Looking For The ideal person has deep Shopify experience and is comfortable working across both technical maintenance and custom development. Relevant experience might include: Custom Shopify theme and app development Shopify product, variant, cart, inventory, and bundle architecture Custom product configurators or bundle/kit builders JavaScript and modern front-end development Shopify performance and technical audits Integrating and evaluating third-party Shopify apps Building maintainable solutions that work well with an existing e-commerce operation We're particularly interested in developers who are comfortable looking at a business problem and helping determine the right solution—not just implementing a predefined specification.
