Part-Time Full-Stack PHP Developer + Cloud Admin — Ongoing, Legal Tech
Worldwide
We're a Canadian immigration law firm based in Montréal. We run several custom-built internal systems — a client portal, a payments and contracts application, and the data pipelines and automations that connect them to the platforms we use day to day. The developer who built and maintained these systems is transitioning out at the end of September. We're looking for an experienced full-stack developer to take over ongoing maintenance and support. This is a part-time, ongoing contract — not a one-off project. We're looking for a long-term working relationship with someone who learns our systems and becomes the person we call. THE WORK - Maintain and support our existing PHP applications - Manage the cloud infrastructure they run on - Keep our data pipelines and automated processes running reliably - Diagnose and resolve issues across the stack, from the database to the server - Document what you learn as you go The first phase is a transition period alongside the outgoing developer. It includes completing some infrastructure simplification already underway and producing the documentation these systems currently lack. After that, the work is ongoing maintenance with occasional improvement projects. We'll scope those together as they come up. WHAT WE NEED - Strong professional experience with PHP and a modern framework - Experience managing cloud infrastructure — Google Cloud, AWS or Azure: provisioning virtual machines, monitoring uptime and logs - Comfortable working with Docker containers as a deployment target - Solid Git/GitHub workflow - Linux command-line competence - Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party platforms - Database experience, SQL or NoSQL Front-end work (JavaScript/React) is useful but not required. HOW WE WORK Part-time and flexible, with a few hours of overlap with our Eastern Time business day for handoffs and anything urgent. Written communication in English. We value someone who documents as they go — the reason we're hiring is that too much knowledge lived in one person's head, and we're not repeating that. Start date: early September, with a handover period through the end of the month. TO APPLY Skip the template. Tell us about a system you inherited from someone else: what shape it was in, and what you did in your first month.
