React/TypeScript + Supabase Developer. Maintain & Help Decide the Next Architecture (Growth)

Summary

I own and run an internal, production e-commerce operations platform (not public-facing) used daily by a ~20-person remote team. It handles live order flow, courier integration, and financial reporting for a real business — so reliability and data-handling matter more than speed of new features. I built the app myself as a non-developer, directing AI tools (Claude + Lovable). It works and runs the business today, but some technology choices were made without deep engineering background, and I expect a real developer to challenge them, not just patch around them. I've also done detailed benchmark research on two direct competitors in this space — you'll get that research as part of this engagement. Stack (as built — open to your recommendations on any of this) Frontend: React 18 + TypeScript + Vite, Tailwind + shadcn/ui, TanStack Query/Table, react-hook-form + Zod Backend: Supabase (Postgres + Auth + Deno Edge Functions), hosted on Lovable Cloud Testing: Vitest + Playwright · CI/CD: GitHub Actions (auto-merge, CI gates) i18n: Arabic + English throughout the UI Scope of this engagement Bug fixes and stability work across the frontend and edge functions Performance and code-quality improvements; help paying down technical debt A real strategic question I want your judgment on: keep extending the current app, or scope a parallel V2 build. You'll get my competitor benchmark research and current schema to form a real recommendation, not a guess. If we proceed toward V2, meaningful architectural ownership of that build Honest technical opinions on where the current stack is wrong for the job How we'll work together Paid trial task (this is the actual starting deliverable): review a redacted/synthetic copy of our schema (not live customer or financial data) plus the competitor benchmark research I provide, and deliver a written recommendation — extend the current app, or build a scoped V2, and why. This is the single highest-leverage call in this engagement and I want it made with real technical judgment. Based on that recommendation and how the trial goes, we scope what's next — which may include broad repository and database access to build against, and a path toward significant technical ownership of the platform. All changes go through GitHub pull requests against a feature branch — never directly to main. Every database/schema change ships as a tracked migration file, never a live-only edit. However deep the access grows, it's structured as: you get a Collaborator/Contributor role, not Owner — I retain GitHub organization ownership and 2FA, and the same on Supabase and any other connected tool, with scoped credentials I can rotate or revoke at any time. This isn't a lack of trust — it's how any serious technical hire is structured, and it means neither of us is stuck if the fit turns out wrong. Given how deep this access can go, an NDA covering source code, business metrics, and competitive strategy is required before the trial begins. Long-term potential This can grow well beyond hourly maintenance — including real technical ownership of where the platform goes next, for the right person. That scope is earned through the trial and what follows; it's not assumed on day one. Please apply as if this is a paid trial with real stakes, not a formality. What I'm looking for Solid, provable experience with React + TypeScript + Postgres/Supabase in a real production system — not just tutorials or demo projects Real architectural judgment — able to weigh "extend vs. rebuild" with actual trade-offs, not a default instinct to rewrite everything you touch Comfortable reading and improving an existing, imperfect codebase Clear written English for async communication (I'm not a developer — explain trade-offs in plain terms, don't just say "it depends") Careful with anything touching money or access control — this is a live business Nice to have Experience with Deno edge functions / serverless backends E-commerce, order-management, or logistics/courier-integration experience Familiarity with RTL/bilingual (Arabic) UI Experience deciding (not just executing) a rebuild-vs-extend call on a live system NOTE: I have all the MD files that you might need.
