Japanese-Speaking App Tester — Weekly Bug & Translation QA
Worldwide
Contract type We're hiring multiple testers for the project: 50% of hires will primarily test on iOS and the other 50% on Android, so both platforms get covered every week without relying on a single person owning both devices. About the project SnoreLab is a snoring-analysis app (records overnight audio, scores snoring, shows trends over time). We're growing SnoreLab in Japan and need an ongoing set of native-Japanese-speaking testers to catch bugs and flag translation/localization issues in the Japanese version of the app, on a regular weekly cadence. What you'll do each week Ensure you're on the latest version of the app from the App Store Run the app overnight or during the day, recording a full session (2 hours+) Walk through the core areas of the app, including: Onboarding / first-run setup (do this periodically even as a returning user, to catch any new issues or bugs) Recording a session Reviewing results, Snore Score, trends/history screens Settings, account, and subscription/upgrade screens Notifications and any reminders the app sends As you go, note anything that: Breaks or misbehaves — crashes, freezes, buttons that don't respond, incorrect data, layout glitches, etc. Reads wrong in Japanese — awkward machine-translation phrasing, incorrect terminology, text that's cut off/overlapping, untranslated English strings, or anything a native speaker wouldn't naturally say. Log every issue you find in the Google Form (link provided after hire) — one submission per issue. Each submission should include: Date and app version Device model + OS version (e.g. iPhone 15, iOS 18.1 / Pixel 8, Android 15) What screen/feature it's on Steps to reproduce (for bugs) Screenshot or short screen recording For translation issues: the exact Japanese text you saw, what's wrong with it, and your suggested correction Severity (blocker / major / minor / cosmetic) — your best judgment If you find no new issues that week, submit a quick "no new issues found" entry Requirements Native-level Japanese (this is essential for the translation QA half of the role) Enough English to read this job post and communicate with the team asynchronously Own smartphone(s) — iOS, Android, or ideally both — recent-ish OS version Comfortable installing apps via TestFlight (iOS) / a direct APK or Play Store beta link (Android) Some prior experience with app testing or QA is a plus, but attention to detail matters more than formal QA background Reliable enough to complete one session per week without frequent gaps How to apply In your application, please tell us: Which device(s) you own and their OS versions (e.g. "iPhone 14, iOS 17" and/or "Samsung Galaxy S23, Android 14") Any past experience testing apps, beta programs, or doing localization/translation review Confirmation that Japanese is your native language Your hourly rate
