Mobile App Proof of Concept
I engaged this freelancer as a 'Senior Technical Architect' based on his own detailed proposal to build a cross-platform (React Native/Expo) Mobile and WatchOS app. His original proposal explicitly estimated the project would require ~420 hours over an 11-12 week timeline.
The engagement resulted in a MATERIAL FAILURE of technical execution and professional conduct:
FAILURE TO DELIVER: The engagement extended to 14 months. Despite my providing a significant grace period (pausing the contract in March 2025 to allow him time to remediate critical instability), the freelancer failed to utilize this time to produce a working build. He billed ~500+ hours (exceeding $23,000), yet the final codebase remains unstable and crashes consistently, rendering it unusable.
ABANDONMENT & REFUSAL TO REMEDIATE: During the critical phase of defining Beta release criteria, I requested the remediation of documented crashing defects and an architectural review to ensure stability and data integrity. Instead of collaborating to resolve these issues, the freelancer became defensive, refused to honor the initial established scope, and unilaterally elected to terminate the engagement. He chose to abandon the project rather than deliver the functioning product he was paid to build.
BILLING DISCREPANCIES: A post-contract code audit revealed that specific core features defined as Phase 1 & 2 deliverables (specifically AI Integration and Voice Recognition) are missing from the code repository entirely. The freelancer billed hours for features that do not exist in the delivered codebase.
This was not a 'research' consultation; it was a fixed-objective build. The freelancer misrepresented his capacity to deliver a production-ready Mobile and WatchOS architecture and failed to honor his own timeline and budget estimates. I cannot recommend this freelancer for any founder or company attempting to build any mobile wearable app; the deliverable did not match the 'Senior' rates charged.
