Accountant | Month-End Close & Financial Reporting | Contract-to-Hire

We are building a full-service, AI-native accounting firm. Clients hire us to do their accounting—not to provide them with accounting software. Our agents perform most of the repetitive production work, while our accountants own the decisions, quality, client relationships, and final outcomes. Traditional accounting firms are built as labor pyramids: large teams perform manual work, while a small number of senior accountants review it. We are building around a smaller team of exceptional accountants supported by agents. That allows us to invest far more in each accountant. We intend to compensate accountants at the same level as senior technical employees: $165,000–$215,000 in base salary upon conversion. We are not using AI to make accounting jobs cheaper. We are using it to create a more leveraged accounting role with fewer layers, broader ownership, and substantially higher compensation. THE ROLE We are hiring experienced accountants to join our accounting team through a 6–9 month contract-to-hire engagement. You will own the accounting outcomes for a portfolio of small and midsize businesses. Agents will prepare much of the underlying work. You will review that work, investigate exceptions, make accounting decisions, complete the close, communicate with clients, and take responsibility for what we deliver. This is an accounting position—not an AI-training, product, software implementation, or data-labeling role. WHAT YOU'LL OWN • The accuracy and completeness of client books • Month-end close and financial reporting • Review of agent-prepared transactions, reconciliations, schedules, workpapers, and supporting evidence • Accounting decisions involving ambiguity, materiality, timing, classification, and business context • Identification of unusual activity, unsupported balances, missing information, and financial risk • Direct communication with clients when additional context or action is required • Clear documentation of significant accounting conclusions • Final approval of work before client delivery • Consistent, on-time outcomes across your client portfolio WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE • Books are closed accurately and on time • Every material balance is supported and explainable • Problems are identified before they reach the client or year-end • Review focuses attention on risk and exceptions instead of manually repeating completed work • Clients trust both the numbers and the accountant responsible for them • Financial reporting helps clients understand what is happening in their businesses WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR • Two or more years of progressive accounting experience • Experience personally owning accounting engagements through close and financial reporting • Strong knowledge of accounting for U.S. businesses • Experience managing multiple clients, entities, or business units simultaneously • Sound professional judgment when the correct answer is not immediately obvious • The ability to detect issues that routine processing and checklist-based review may miss • Strong written and verbal communication with business owners • A record of taking responsibility for completed work and client outcomes A CPA, EA or equivalent professional qualification is preferred. Experience in construction and trades, nonprofits, or consulting and professional services is especially valuable. We do not select accountants based on familiarity with a particular software stack.
