Experienced Python/IBKR Trading Developer — Pre-Build Consultation I’m planning to build a Python-based trading automation system using Interactive Brokers (IBKR). Before I start building it, I’d like to spend a little time with someone who has real experience building automated trading systems with IBKR and can sanity-check my proposed approach. I’m comfortable writing the code myself, including with the help of LLMs. What I’m looking for is experienced guidance before I get too far down the road. Specifically, I’d like to discuss things such as: How an experienced developer would structure a system like this The right way to interact with IBKR and handle orders, positions, fills, reconnects, etc. Common pitfalls or failure modes I might not anticipate How to think about risk controls and safeguards What should be separated into different components/processes How to test the system safely before allowing it to trade substantial money Any other architectural or practical issues that would be easy for an inexperienced developer to overlook This is not primarily a coding job. I’m not looking for someone to build a finished trading system for me, and I don't necessarily have an existing codebase that needs to be reviewed. The ideal person would be someone who has actually built or operated automated trading systems with IBKR and can explain how they would approach the problem and why. I expect this to be a relatively short consulting engagement, probably a conversation or two, potentially followed by some written recommendations or a review of my proposed design. Please tell me briefly about your experience with IBKR API / Python automated trading, and, ideally, an example of the kinds of systems you've worked on.
