Arabic & Urdu UI Localization Proofreader for a Muslim Lifestyle Mobile App

About the Project We're developing Wahda, a Muslim lifestyle mobile app that brings together social networking, communities, faith tools, and local discovery into a single platform. The app will be available in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic), and Urdu. The English and Bahasa Indonesia versions have already been completed. We're now looking for a native Arabic and/or Urdu proofreader to help review and refine the existing translations before implementation. This is not a translation-from-scratch project. Instead, we're looking for someone to ensure the translations sound natural, preserve the original meaning, and provide a great user experience for native speakers. Scope of Work - The current project includes approximately 3,600 UI strings covering various parts of the application, such as: - Authentication & onboarding - Chat & messaging - Voice & video calls - Communities - Live streaming (TBC) - Places & Events - Quran & Islamic tools - Notifications - Settings & system messages To help us align on quality and terminology, the review will be completed in batches rather than all at once. As the product continues to develop, additional UI strings may also become available for future review. Responsibilities - Your role will be to review the provided translations and: - Improve naturalness and readability where needed. - Ensure the wording is appropriate for a modern mobile application. - Preserve the original meaning and user experience. - Correct grammar, wording, and consistency where necessary. - Rewrite only when it improves clarity or the overall user experience. - Keep translations concise whenever possible. - Preserve placeholders, variables, formatting, and punctuation. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: - Is a native Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic) and/or Urdu speaker. - Has experience in translation, proofreading, editing, or localization. - Has a strong eye for grammar, consistency, and attention to detail. - Can write natural, clear, and user-friendly copy for native speakers. - Understands the importance of preserving the original meaning while adapting the language naturally. The following are a plus, but not required: - Experience with UI/mobile app localization. - Experience localizing digital products or software. - Familiarity with UX writing principles. - Familiarity with Muslim lifestyle apps or Islamic terminology. Working Arrangement - We plan to work collaboratively, with regular communication throughout the review process. - Since some UI strings have limited context, additional clarification will be provided whenever needed. - We're open to both hourly and fixed-price contracts and are happy to discuss the most suitable arrangement. - If the collaboration goes well, we'd be happy to continue working together as new localization batches become available.
