Summary

About Setwell Setwell (setwell.ca) is a Canadian plain-language guidance platform helping three audiences navigate important life moments: newcomers settling in Canada, young adults building their financial lives, and Canadians managing loss and estate administration. The platform publishes verified, professionally edited content with interactive tools built into each article. Every article follows a rigorous editorial audit framework, is independently verified against primary sources including official government websites, and is written to plain-language standards appropriate for ESL readers and financial beginners. Setwell is operated by a practicing Canadian lawyer with a background in legal research and public policy. The platform's financial content is reviewed by a named Certified Financial Analyst serving as Editorial Advisor. This posting is for a paralegal reviewer to provide specialist legal accuracy review of articles covering estate administration, employment law, and government benefit programs. The Role I am looking for a Canadian paralegal in good standing to review a specific set of articles for legal accuracy and appropriate plain-language framing before publication. This is not a writing role. All articles are fully drafted and fact-checked by the operator before reaching you. Your role is a focused second pass applying your professional expertise to flag any legal inaccuracies, outdated procedural information, or claims that require additional sourcing or nuance. Your name and credential will appear on each article you review in a Reviewed by attribution line, giving you a named professional credit and backlink on a growing Canadian guidance platform. What the role involves: Reading each completed article and providing brief written notes covering factual accuracy within your area of legal expertise, any procedural claims requiring correction or additional sourcing, and any language that overstates legal rights or obligations in a way that could mislead a reader. What the role does not involve: Writing or researching articles from scratch. Providing legal advice to readers. The platform's disclaimer language makes clear that Setwell is an educational resource and not a legal services provider. Your review role does not create any legal or professional relationship between you and Setwell's readers. Articles for Initial Engagement The initial engagement covers four articles at a fixed rate of $75 CAD per article, for a total of $300 CAD. A formal engagement letter will be provided before any work begins. Named credit: Your name and paralegal credential will appear on each article you review as a Reviewed by attribution, visible to all readers. A permanent professional backlink to your LinkedIn profile or professional website of your choice will be maintained on the site for the duration of our working relationship. This credit remains active as long as we continue working together and is removed promptly if either party ends the arrangement. Article one: What to Do When Someone Dies, a comprehensive guide to estate administration for Canadian families covering immediate steps, executor responsibilities, government notifications, and estate settlement. Article two: Bereavement Leave in Canada, covering federal and provincial bereavement leave entitlements across all Canadian jurisdictions. Article three: Bereavement Leave in Ontario, a deep dive into Ontario-specific bereavement leave rules under the Employment Standards Act. Article four: Probate in Ontario, covering the probate process, executor responsibilities, court filing requirements, and timelines. Note this article is currently being drafted and will be provided within the next few weeks. A fifth article, Tenant Insurance in Canada, may be added to the scope for a focused review of one specific claim regarding landlord enforceability of lease clauses across Canadian provinces. This would be compensated separately at the same per-article rate. Ongoing Arrangement After the initial engagement, additional articles may be commissioned on a per-article basis as the content library grows. Articles outside your legal expertise will be routed to other specialist reviewers. Your Reviewed by attribution will appear on each article you review. Either party may end the arrangement with reasonable notice. Upon termination, your name and attribution will be removed from the site promptly. Who I Am Looking For A paralegal in good standing with their provincial law society, with experience in one or more of the following areas: estate administration, probate, employment law and standards, or residential tenancy law. Someone who is organized, responsive, and comfortable providing direct written feedback identifying specific concerns rather than general impressions. Alberta or Ontario practice preferred given the platform's primary audience, though other provinces are welcome to apply if the credential and experience are a strong fit. Three to eight years of paralegal experience preferred. I am looking for someone with enough practical experience to catch real procedural errors, not just surface-level language issues. To Apply Please send a brief message covering the following: Your paralegal credential status, governing law society, and year of call or certification. Your primary area of practice. One or two sentences on why this engagement interests you. A link to your professional profile or LinkedIn. A CV or resume is welcome but not required. A Note on Professional Liability Your role involves reviewing published content for legal accuracy and plain-language appropriateness. It does not constitute providing legal advice to readers and does not create a solicitor-client relationship between you and Setwell's audience. A formal engagement letter will confirm these terms before any work begins. If you work within a law firm or organization with compliance requirements around external engagements, please confirm with your supervising lawyer before applying.
