Background MIDI Routing Daemon (macOS/Win)
Worldwide
Job Description: We are an audio software agency looking for an expert C++ Audio Software Engineer with deep JUCE framework experience to develop a low-latency, background MIDI routing application. Project Overview: We are building a companion app for a new physical MIDI hardware processor. This software will function as an "Invisible Bridge." It must capture raw MIDI from a physical keyboard, route it through our custom hardware via USB for processing, and seamlessly pass the processed notes to the user's DAW (Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton) via an OS-level "Virtual Port." Core Responsibilities & Scope: 1. Zero-Latency Background Engine: Build a headless, real-time daemon using strict lock-free audio programming. Auto-detect our USB hardware and route MIDI: Keyboard - USB Hardware - Virtual Port. 2. Virtual Port Generation: Broadcast a global virtual output port using macOS CoreMIDI and Windows APIs/drivers (e.g., teVirtualMIDI or WinRT). 3. Anti-Hang & IPC Handshake: Instantly broadcast 'All Notes Off' (CC 123) and 'Sustain Off' (CC 64) if hardware disconnects. Build a lightweight IPC channel (UDP/Named Pipe) to temporarily release the locked Windows USB connection when the user opens our separate Config App. 4. Minimal UI: Create a simple Mac Menu Bar / Windows System Tray app with an Input Selector (must include "Omni"), connection status, and basic routing toggles. 5. Deployment & QA: Deliver fully code-signed (Apple Notarization, Windows EV) .dmg and .exe installers, silently bundling any Windows drivers. Ensure rock-solid performance across major DAWs, handling edge cases like OS sleep/wake and mid-chord USB yanks. Required Tech Stack / Skills: C++17 & JUCE Framework (Expert Level) macOS CoreMIDI APIs Windows Virtual MIDI driver integration (teVirtualMIDI / loopMIDI / WinRT) Inter-Process Communication (IPC) Apple Notarization & Windows Code Signing To Apply: Please link to examples of previous audio or MIDI software you have developed (plugins, DAWs, standalone audio apps). IMPORTANT: At the top of your cover letter, please answer this question: "macOS has native support for creating Virtual MIDI ports, but Windows does not. How do you specifically plan to create and broadcast the Virtual MIDI port on Windows?"
