Beta Reader for Non-Fiction Book on Creating Transformational Retreats (approx. 52,000 words)
Worldwide
My client is an established retreat leader publishing her first book and I am looking for a thoughtful beta reader to give me honest, constructive feedback before final editing. About the book It is a non-fiction book, a blend of practical how-to training, personal memoir, and real case studies. It teaches women how to design, fill, and lead retreats that are both deeply meaningful and commercially sustainable. The book is built around a nine-part framework, with each part opening with a personal story, followed by teaching chapters and a real case study from someone she has worked with. The tone is warm, grounded, and heart-centred, and it is meant to feel like training as you go. - Length: approximately 52,000 words - Structure: 31 chapters across 9 parts, plus 11 case studies - Audience: women who are coaches, healers, facilitators, or aspiring retreat leaders - English: Australian spelling What I am looking for from you I do not need line-by-line copy editing or proofreading. I am looking for a reader's experience and honest reactions, with particular attention to: - Clarity and ease of following. Does it work as a step-by-step training guide? Are the instructions clear and actionable, or are there places you felt unsure what to do next? - Flow and pacing. Where does it move well, and where does it drag, repeat itself, or lose momentum? - Authenticity of voice. Does it consistently sound like a real, experienced person, or are there sections that feel generic, templated, or flat? - Emotional connection. Where did you feel something? Where did you disconnect? - The case studies. Do they land and feel relevant where they are placed? - Anything confusing, contradictory, or that pulled you out of the experience. Deliverables - A written feedback report (2 to 4 pages is ideal) covering the points above - NO Ai PLEASE! - Chapter-by-chapter notes or margin comments where helpful - An honest overall impression, including what is working well and what you feel needs the most attention Ideal candidate - Experience as a beta reader or developmental reader for non-fiction, self-development, or business books - Bonus if you have interest or background in wellness, coaching, retreats, or personal development - Comfortable giving honest, kind, and specific feedback - Able to read in Australian English without flagging spelling as errors Please provide a quote and timeframe when inquiring for the job. Thanks.
