Book Cover Designer + KDP Formatter Needed — 3-Book Nonfiction Series

Summary

I'm publishing a 3-book series on Amazon KDP (ebook + paperback) and need someone to handle both cover design and interior formatting. --- **PART 1: COVER DESIGN** **Deliverables per cover (x3 books):** 1. Ebook front cover: 2560 x 1600 px, RGB, 300 DPI, JPG 2. Paperback wraparound: 6 x 9" trim, full wrap (front + spine + back), 300 DPI CMYK, PDF 3. Back cover layout with my supplied book description and bio text 4. 3D book mockups (individual + series shot) for marketing 5. Editable source file (PSD or AI) **Design direction:** - Series cohesion: same color palette, same typography system, same series branding — each book visually distinct enough to tell apart at thumbnail size - Working palette to consider: deep navy (#1B3A6B), gold accent (#C8922A), off-white. Open to better alternatives. - Style: bold typography-led, NOT stock-photo corporate. Think *Building a StoryBrand*, *Atomic Habits*, *The Pumpkin Plan* — strong type over minimal/geometric backgrounds - Must read clearly at Amazon thumbnail size (~200px tall) - No human faces, no real estate clichés (houses, keys, gavels), no stock business imagery - Series badge or banner element in consistent position across all 3 covers — important for bundle visibility --- **PART 2: KDP INTERIOR FORMATTING** **Deliverables per book:** 1. KDP-compliant EPUB for Kindle (reflowable, working hyperlinked TOC, styled but device-safe) 2. KDP-compliant paperback PDF (6x9, 0.625" gutter, embedded fonts, Roman numeral front matter, no page numbers on chapter openers) 3. Validation through KDP Kindle Previewer before delivery (must pass with no errors) 4. Editable working files (InDesign INDD, Vellum, or Atticus) 5. 48-hour turnaround on any KDP-flagged issues during upload at no extra charge **Critical formatting requirements:** - Manuscripts contain custom design elements: numbered 'Script' / 'Workflow' callout boxes with navy headers + gold tip rows, comparison tables, styled headings (Georgia for headings, Arial for body) - Callout boxes must render correctly on Kindle without breaking awkwardly across pages - Multi-column tables must remain readable on Kindle devices (or be converted to formatted lists where appropriate — your call on what works) - TOC must hyperlink in both EPUB and PDF outputs - Embedded fonts in paperback PDF (Georgia + Arial or close substitutes) - Smart quotes and em dashes properly encoded for older Kindle devices I'll provide the DOCX/PDF manuscripts with my preferred styling already applied. --- **TIMELINE** - Week 1: 3 cover concepts for Book 1 (front only, low-res preview) - Week 2: Book 1 cover finalized (all formats) + Book 1 interior formatting completed - Week 3: Book 1 interior delivered, Books 2-3 covers shared - Week 4: Books 2-3 covers finalized, interior formatting started - Week 5: Books 2-3 interiors delivered Total: 5 weeks for all 6 deliverables across the 3 books. --- **BUDGET** Fixed price for full project: $200 Milestone-based payment: 40% on Book 1 sign-off, 30% on Book 2 sign-off, 30% on Book 3 sign-off. --- **TO APPLY** Please include: 1. **Portfolio links** — at least 3 nonfiction KDP covers AND 2 interior formatting samples (paperback PDF screenshots or live Amazon listings preferred) 2. **Your approach to series design** — one paragraph on how you'd think about making 3 books feel cohesive but distinct 3. **Tool stack** — InDesign / Vellum / Atticus / Affinity / Photoshop — tell me what you use and why 4. **One example of a KDP rejection or issue you've fixed** — I want to know you've actually dealt with the platform's edge cases, not just theory Skip generic 'I am an expert designer with 10+ years experience' intros. They get deleted. Show me the portfolio and answer the questions. --- **About me:** Indie publisher building a nonfiction business series. Long-term collaboration likely — 3-5 more books planned for 2026 in adjacent niches. Looking for someone I can work with on an ongoing basis if Book 1 goes well. Looking forward to seeing your work.
