Book Cover Designer Needed to Refine an Existing Nonfiction Front-Cover Concept
Worldwide
I am seeking an experienced book-cover designer to professionally refine and rebuild an existing cover concept for a practical narrative nonfiction book. Book title: DRIFT Subtitle: How Even Good Workplaces Lose the Space to Think Author: Joe Caracci DRIFT explores how pressure, workload, culture, familiar shortcuts, silence, and workplace design shape the decisions good people make under pressure. The book draws on more than two decades of workplace experience and more than 10,000 interviews conducted following workplace injuries. I have already developed and tested a strong cover concept. The design uses an hourglass-like shape created through negative space to suggest: shrinking mental margin; increasing time pressure; a narrowing opportunity to notice, pause, and think; how even good workplaces gradually drift toward preventable harm. The current design has a warm cream center surrounded by deep navy. The subtitle narrows down toward the word “TO” and widens again at “THINK,” creating a visual funnel or hourglass. The design is minimalist, serious, intelligent, and intended for the business, leadership, workplace-culture, safety, and applied-psychology markets. Current colors: (But I am open to suggestions) Dark navy: #13233E Warm cream: #EBD39E I will provide: the current front-cover artwork; screenshots and working design files; the current Lulu proof cover; The attachments include the original AI produced concept and my crude attempts to recreate the artwork using Inkscape and Scribus. I am not looking for a completely unrelated concept. I want a designer who can recognize what is working, challenge what is not, and professionally improve the typography, spacing, balance, readability, market positioning, and overall production quality. The cover must remain clear and compelling when viewed as a small online thumbnail as well as at full paperback size. This project is for the front cover only. I will create the spine and back cover separately using Lulu’s cover-design tool. Delieverables needed: * Two or three refined front-cover concepts based on existing idea and supplied examples. * Final front cover for a 6×9 paperback; high-resolution PNG or JPG, at least 300 dpi; with extra background around the edges so it can extend through Lulu’s bleed area; *An editable source file; a version suitable for online thumbnails and marketing; confirmation that fonts and any artwork are licensed for commercial use. Please disclose any use of generative AI in the proposed work or included assets before using it. I prefer original typography and design work using properly licensed fonts and assets. The ideal designer will have: a strong portfolio of nonfiction, business, leadership, psychology, or professional-development covers; excellent typography and composition skills; experience producing full-wrap paperback covers; knowledge of spine widths, bleed, trim, safe zones, and commercial print requirements; the ability to refine an established idea without replacing it with a generic stock-image concept; clear communication and a willingness to explain design choices. Please begin your proposal with the word DRIFT so I know you have read the full description. Include links to three covers from your portfolio that are most relevant to this project. Please share three nonfiction or business book covers you personally designed that demonstrate strong typography and explain your role in each project.
