Book Formatting & Publishing Assistant (Family Memoir) Please read this entire job description before applying. I am looking for an experienced Book Formatting & Publishing Assistant to help complete my family’s memoir. This is NOT a ghostwriting, editing, cover design, illustration, or book creation project. The book has already been written, designed, and created by me. All front matter, title pages, dedication pages, memorial pages, divider pages, photo pages, acknowledgments, and back matter have already been completed exactly how I want them. Please do not redesign or change these pages unless I specifically request it. The only portion requiring work is the original manuscript consisting of Chapters 1–23 and the poetry section. The original manuscript was typed approximately 30 years ago and currently exists as scanned typed pages that are not editable. I am looking for someone experienced with OCR conversion and professional book formatting who can accurately convert the manuscript into editable text while preserving the original wording. The completed manuscript should be professionally formatted as a 6” x 9” book using a clean, professional, easy-to-read font and font size that is comfortable for readers. PROJECT MILESTONES & PAYMENT Total Fixed Price Budget: $100 All milestones are paid after they have been completed and approved before moving to the next milestone. Milestone 1 – $10 OCR Conversion & Chapter 1 Formatting This is the first paid milestone. The purpose of this milestone is to determine whether you can successfully convert the original scanned manuscript into editable text and professionally format Chapter 1 to the style I am looking for. Responsibilities include: • Convert Chapter 1 into editable text using Adobe Acrobat Pro OCR or another professional OCR solution if it produces a better result. • Professionally format Chapter 1 as a 6” x 9” printed book. • Select a clean, professional, easy-to-read font and font size. • Apply consistent spacing, paragraph breaks, margins, indents, chapter headings, and page layout. • Preserve the original wording. • Send Chapter 1 to me for review and approval. Once Milestone 1 has been completed and the agreed deliverables have been submitted, payment for Milestone 1 will be released. If Chapter 1 meets my expectations, we will continue with Milestones 2, 3, and 4 until the project is complete. If we determine after Milestone 1 that we are not the right fit to continue, the project will simply end after the first paid milestone. Milestone 2 – $30 Complete Manuscript Formatting After Chapter 1 has been approved: • Professionally format Chapters 2–23. • Professionally format the poetry section. • Every chapter and poem must match the exact formatting approved in Chapter 1, including font, font size, spacing, margins, paragraph style, chapter headings, and overall layout. • Maintain a clean, consistent, professional appearance throughout the manuscript. • Do not redesign or change any pages I have already created unless I specifically request it. Once completed, send me the fully formatted manuscript for review and approval. Payment will be released after approval. Milestone 3 – $30 Complete Book Assembly After the manuscript has been approved: • Organize every page from the front cover through the back cover. • Place all of my completed pages in the correct order. • Ensure the book flows correctly from beginning to end. • Send me the entire completed book PDF exactly as it will appear in the finished printed book so I can carefully review every page before publication. Payment will be released after approval. Milestone 4 – $30 Final Publication Upload After I give final approval: Prepare and upload the completed files for: • Hardcover • Paperback • eBook Upload to: • Amazon KDP • IngramSpark • Barnes & Noble Press Payment will be released after successful completion of the upload. PRINT PREFERENCES The print editions will be 6” x 9”. If supported by the publishing platform, I would like the following pages printed on premium glossy paper to enhance the photographs and decorative pages: • Table of Contents • Memorial pages • All photo pages • Any pages containing decorative artwork, borders, backgrounds, or special designs. The following pages should remain on standard interior paper: • Copyright page • Title page • Chapters 1–23 • Poetry section • All regular text pages. If a publishing platform cannot produce this result, please discuss the best professional alternative with me before publication. WHO I’M LOOKING FOR Please apply only if you consistently follow through on the projects you accept. I am looking for someone who is: • Reliable and dependable. • Efficient while maintaining excellent quality. • Detail-oriented. • Responsive and communicates well. • Able to carefully follow directions. • Committed to completing projects within the agreed timeframe. This project is already behind schedule, so I am looking for someone who has the availability to begin promptly. I typically narrow applicants down to 2–3 finalists based on experience, portfolio, communication, responsiveness, professionalism, and attention to detail before making my final decision.
