Brand Identity Designer for Elevated, Community-Focused Children’s Play Café

Summary

Main & Mini is an elevated indoor play café and family community designed for children ages 0-6 and the adults who care for them. The first location will open in the western suburbs of Chicago, with the long-term goal of creating a scalable brand that can expand beyond a single location. The concept combines imaginative, active play with a genuinely enjoyable café and hospitality experience for parents. It should feel more like a beautifully designed neighborhood café, boutique hospitality brand, or modern family social club than a traditional indoor playground, daycare, or children’s entertainment center. While Main & Mini will not be exclusively members-only, membership will be central to the experience. The brand should create a sense of belonging, familiarity, and community—the feeling that this is “your place”—without becoming elitist, status-driven, or unwelcoming to non-members. The brand should edge toward approachable luxury: polished, thoughtful, tactile, and elevated, but never cold, precious, overly expensive, or intimidating. It should appeal to design-conscious parents while remaining warm, comfortable, and inclusive. Parents should feel the space was designed for them, not simply that they are being accommodated while their children play. Main & Mini should feel warm, calm, imaginative, slightly nostalgic, subtly European-inspired, and highly intentional. The European influence should be atmospheric rather than thematic, drawing from neighborhood cafés, vintage signage, layered interiors, old-world typography, traditional millwork, natural materials, and the idea that children can comfortably exist within beautiful adult spaces. The physical environment should be highly photogenic and naturally shareable without feeling designed solely for social media. Parents should want to photograph the café, their children playing, architectural details, signage, drinks, parties, and small branded moments. Ideally, images taken in the space should be recognizable as Main & Mini even when the logo is not visible. The brand should avoid feeling like a daycare, preschool, pediatric office, trampoline park, generic coffee shop, hyper-feminine “mom brand,” beige Instagram brand, or exclusive private club. It should also avoid overused children’s branding such as primary colors, cartoon children, pastel rainbows, bubble lettering, handprints, building blocks, and literal coffee-and-toy imagery. Brand Personality and Values The brand should feel: Warm, welcoming, and polished Community-oriented and membership-driven Elevated but approachable Playful but not childish Design-conscious but not pretentious Modern but not overly trendy Slightly vintage or European-inspired Aspirational but comfortable Core values include thoughtfulness, hospitality, belonging, community, quality, ease, imagination, cleanliness, safety, inclusivity, and delight. Creative Direction The visual identity should feel layered, tactile, warm, and slightly unexpected. Potential direction may include warm architectural neutrals, dusty or muted accent colors, natural wood tones, creams, taupes, warm browns, muted blues, clay tones, softened greens, subtle vintage influences, character-rich typography, hand-drawn elements, and restrained patterns or textures. The brand should not necessarily be minimalist, but it should feel edited and intentional. Scope and Deliverables The project should include a complete, flexible brand system rather than only a logo. Desired deliverables include: - Primary, secondary, and compact logo marks - Color palette - Typeface system - Brand voice and tone - Key messaging and tagline exploration - Photography and imagery direction - Illustration or icon style - Supporting graphic elements, such as stars, sparks, borders, arrows, patterns, textures, and small illustrations - Interior material and texture direction - Social profile assets for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn - Editable Canva templates for feed posts, stories, reels, announcements, memberships, events, menu features, testimonials, FAQs, job posts, and construction updates - A practical brand guide covering logo, color, type, voice, imagery, and graphic usage - Organized final files in vector, print, digital, and transparent formats The identity should work across signage, menus, cups, packaging, staff apparel, merchandise, membership materials, website, email, social media, flyers, party materials, wayfinding, window graphics, and future location launches. The final system should be distinctive and ownable, but also practical for a founder-led business. It should be easy to use independently, scalable across future locations, and strong enough to make Main & Mini feel like an established hospitality and lifestyle brand rather than simply a local children’s business.
