FAIRFIELD BEACH ASSOCIATION Current Logo Visible @ https://www.fbra.org/about/ ## Brand Identity Refinement, Decal Initiative, Merchandise Program ### Project Overview The Fairfield Beach Association (FBA) is seeking a designer to refine and modernize its existing visual identity while preserving the heritage, recognition, and community connection associated with the current logo. At the center of the existing mark is Penfield Lighthouse, one of the most recognizable landmarks on Connecticut's coastline and an enduring symbol of Fairfield Beach. The goal is not to replace the current identity, but rather to elevate it into a more timeless, versatile, and iconic brand system that can be used across apparel, decals, signage, digital platforms, and community materials. We are looking for a designer who can balance tradition and refinement, creating an identity that feels authentic to Fairfield Beach and capable of serving the organization for decades to come. --- ## About Fairfield Beach Fairfield Beach is a unique waterfront neighborhood along Long Island Sound in Fairfield, Connecticut. The area is defined by its strong sense of community, coastal heritage, summer traditions, and connection to Penfield Lighthouse. The visual identity should reflect these qualities while remaining clean, sophisticated, and approachable. --- ## Project Goals The project consists of three primary components: ### 1. Refine and Modernize the Existing Logo ### 2. Develop a Long-Term Merchandise Program ### 3. Create an Iconic FBA Community Decal --- # LOGO REFINEMENT ## Current Identity The existing logo features a stylized representation of Penfield Lighthouse rising above ocean waves, surrounded by the words "Fairfield Beach Association" and the organization's founding date. While the logo is recognizable and meaningful to residents, we believe it can be strengthened through improved illustration, typography, spacing, and overall versatility. ## Objectives We are looking to: * Create a cleaner, more iconic representation of Penfield Lighthouse. * Improve overall balance and composition. * Refine the wave treatment and supporting elements. * Improve legibility at smaller sizes. * Create stronger visual impact on apparel and merchandise. * Ensure the logo reproduces well in embroidery, screen printing, decals, signage, and digital applications. * Preserve the heritage and familiarity of the current mark. The resulting logo should feel timeless rather than trendy. --- # TYPOGRAPHY Typography is one of the primary areas where we are seeking creative input. The current typography functions adequately but lacks a distinctive character that reinforces the identity of Fairfield Beach. We are interested in exploring: * Heritage-inspired typography * Maritime influences * New England institutional aesthetics * Yacht club and beach club traditions * Custom lettering or modified type treatments The typography should feel: * Established * Authentic * Refined * Enduring Avoid: * Script fonts * Playful beach-themed typography * Tourist-shop aesthetics * Trend-driven design choices --- # VISUAL DIRECTION The overall identity should communicate: * Coastal heritage * Community pride * New England character * Simplicity * Longevity * Authenticity * Local connection The logo should feel uniquely Fairfield Beach and immediately recognizable to residents. --- # ANNUAL MERCHANDISE PROGRAM One of the primary goals of this project is to establish a collectible annual apparel program that residents look forward to each year. Rather than creating traditional organizational merchandise, we want to create shirts people genuinely enjoy wearing. The annual collection should become a tradition. --- ## Core Concept Penfield Lighthouse should serve as the central visual theme of the collection. Rather than reinventing the subject matter each year, we envision a long-term series built around different artistic interpretations of Penfield Lighthouse and the Fairfield Beach waterfront. The overall aesthetic should feel closer to premium coastal apparel than organizational merchandise. Inspirations include: * Nantucket apparel * Vineyard-inspired coastal brands * Yacht club merchandise * Vintage maritime graphics * Heritage outdoor brands --- # FBA COMMUNITY DECAL In addition to the primary logo, we would like to develop a simple community decal that functions as a recognizable shorthand for Fairfield Beach.
