About ALO Maison Press ALO Maison Press is building a curated online platform that connects children's authors with schools, libraries, bookstores, literacy organizations, daycares, festivals, and community groups for author visits, read-alouds, workshops, book signings, and other literary events. Our vision is to become the leading platform for discovering and booking children's authors while providing authors with professional profiles, increased visibility, and meaningful opportunities to connect with readers. This is not a literary agency or a traditional publishing company for featured authors. Authors retain full ownership of their books, copyrights, and intellectual property. ALO Maison Press serves as a curated discovery and booking platform. What I'm Looking For I'm looking for an experienced U.S.-licensed business attorney who has experience advising startups, online marketplaces, SaaS platforms, creator platforms, or similar businesses. I'm not simply looking for someone to generate legal templates. I'm looking for someone who can review my business model, identify legal risks, and build the legal framework for a scalable online marketplace. Ideally, I would like to establish an ongoing relationship with someone who can continue advising ALO Maison Press as the business grows. Current Business Model The platform currently operates as follows: Children's authors apply to become featured on ALO Maison Press. Every application is reviewed before acceptance. Accepted authors receive a professional author profile showcasing their biography, books, event offerings, pricing, reviews, and booking information. Schools, libraries, bookstores, literacy organizations, and community groups can browse authors and submit booking requests through the platform. ALO Maison Press coordinates bookings and retains a 20% service fee from confirmed bookings while the author receives the remaining 80%. During launch, the first 100 accepted authors will join free of charge as Founding Authors. In the future, we plan to introduce an annual membership fee for new and renewing authors. What I Need I would like an attorney to review my business model and determine whether it is structured appropriately from both a legal and liability standpoint. Specifically, I need guidance on: Marketplace structure Author relationship Booking workflow Payment flow Commission structure Membership model Intellectual property Liability protection Privacy and data handling Risk management Insurance recommendations Any federal or state legal considerations that may apply Documents Needed Based on your recommendations, I would like assistance preparing the appropriate legal documents, which may include: Author Participation Agreement Author Booking Agreement / Booking Terms Website Terms of Use Privacy Policy Refund & Cancellation Policy Content License Agreement Copyright & Intellectual Property Policy Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability Payment & Commission Terms Code of Conduct Any additional agreements you believe are necessary for this type of business Additional Review I would also like you to review: My website Author application Booking workflow Payment process Membership structure and provide recommendations for any legal improvements before launch. Ideal Experience Please apply only if you have experience with one or more of the following: Startup businesses Marketplace platforms SaaS businesses Creator economy E-commerce Publishing Intellectual property Business contracts Technology law Experience working with platforms that connect service providers with customers (such as marketplaces or booking platforms) is highly preferred. When Applying Please include: A brief introduction about your experience. Examples of similar businesses you've advised (without sharing confidential information). Your approach to reviewing and building the legal framework for an online marketplace. Whether you are licensed to practice law in the United States (please specify the state(s)). Your estimated timeline. Whether you're available for ongoing legal support as the business grows. I'm looking for someone who can become a trusted legal advisor, not just complete a one-time project. My goal is to build ALO Maison Press on a strong legal foundation from the beginning so it can scale confidently as we grow our community of authors and partners. I look forward to hearing from you.
