Summary

Role Description: We're looking for an experienced CAD-Failure Driven Design Engineer with FEA/CFD simulation competency to help iterate, simulate, and validate multiple design variations of products or components against a defined set of engineering, material, and manufacturing constraints. This is a flexible, per project-based engagement for a freelancer who can move quickly between concept iterations and validate designs before they go into prototyping or production. Key Responsibilities: - Iterate and validate multiple CAD design concepts based on given technical specifications and constraints (e.g., dimensional limits, load requirements, material properties, manufacturing method) - Run and verify simulations (structural, thermal, fluid, or motion — as applicable) to validate design performance under different scenarios - Perform tolerance analysis and DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) checks Compare and benchmark design alternatives against defined success criteria (weight, cost, strength, durability, etc.) - Document design iterations, simulation results, engineering change rationale, and trade-off analyses in a clear, organized format - Prepare and process production-ready CAD files and drawings (2D/3D) - Collaborate remotely with our internal team via calls, shared files, and async updates Required Skills & Experience: - Proficiency in one or more CAD platforms: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, Creo, or similar - Hands-on experience with simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, Fusion 360 Simulation, Abaqus) for FEA/CFD analysis - Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, etc.) - Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) is a plus - Ability to interpret technical requirements/constraints and translate them into design solutions - Analytical mindset — comfortable comparing multiple design options against quantitative criteria - Clear communication skills for documenting and presenting design rationale - Portfolio or work samples demonstrating past design + simulation projects
